    Thumbs up Nolin Report 6/26/10

I normally have to work Saturdays, but I was budgeted today. Since I had already woken up @ 3:15 to leave for work, and now I had no work......well, I had to go fishing instead! Finally got to Nolin around 6:00, after dinking around with the boat and gear. Amazing how nice the lake looks without all the power boats and jet skiiers! Put in a Moutardier and headed towards the dam. Didn't even make it around the corner at Moutardier when I noticed a huge jump happening. I came off plane and proceeded to nail my first two LMs, nice ones at that...both @ 3lbs. Picked up and proceeded onward and found some MONSTER jumps happening in the mouth of a cove. I set up shop there and would catch 2-3 LMs with every jump that came up...and none of them were less then 2 1/2 lbs! With several 3-4lbs and the biggest came in at 5lb 12oz. All in the jumps using super flukes weightless. JUST TOO MUCH FUN!!! I'm addicted to fishing the jumps now....counting down to Monday! Water temps were around 90 degrees with excellent clarity. Barely made it back to the ramp around noon...having to dodge boats and wave runners...not to mention the 6 foot waves from them all! Crazy! I love fishing during the week.....that's why I work weekends!

"the jumps" are when the bass school up shad and then bust them on the surface...jumping out of the water as they gorge themselves....it's quite the sight if you've never seen it before. Gets your heart pumping!

When you fish the flukes weightless do they just seem to act like a dying baitfish? I'm asking because when I rig them weightless they don't really have much swimming action. Is this correct? I guess I'll have to head back tomorrow

Exactly. I was casting to the jump, giving it 2-3 quick jerks then pausing and letting it flutter down just like an injured bait fish. Many times they hit it immediately when it hits the water, other times you have to twitch it some, then pause...and they will pick it up. Good luck tomorrow!

Well Rich, I have to say thank you for you fluke instructions

We didn't go to Nolin yesterday, we went to Barren instead but I followed your advice and on the 2nd stop we made while looking for jumps we found ourselves on a school right off a point where we stayed for about 2 hours.

We didn't catch anything big, but we managed to land around 15 LMB all right around a pound. We caught them on white pear and smokin shad colors.

I'm going to try to head to Nolin sometime during the week and try my luck there too.

    thanks again

No problem bro. People have been saying that Barren is fishing really good right now....I need to head up there, I just can't get myself away from Nolin right now! Sounds like you guys had some fun, that's what its all about! I'm fishing Nolin this evening and early tomorrow, I'll report back. Take care.

Rich, did you do any good this week? Topwater still on early or late? Also, did you ever get north of Red Rock and see any of the same or was all lower lake in the clear water?
    Thanks

Tore them up this week. Never made it further up lake than Moutardier. I talked to some guys who said there are some large jumps up around Wax, but they seem to be smaller bass. The schools around the dam are generally keeper size. I've stuck with the fluke, and yes....early and late are the best.
