    Question Ponds near Bowling Green

I recently moved into my dorm at Western Kentucky University and was wondering if anyone on here could direct me to some park ponds or other places I could wet a line in between study sessions this fall.

I would look into WKU's bass fishing team. Even if you are not totally into tournament fishing - you could learn a great deal, and fish with some great fishermen.

Oh the good old days. Getting out of class then me and my buddies piling into a vehicle and heading out to go fishing. You probably werent even born yet! First get a map of the area and don't limit yourself to just local ponds. Id recommend going to Drakes Creek for small mouth, muskie, catfish, etc, Jennings & Trammel Creek for trout, Barren Lake has great bank fishing when the water is down. Depending on your budget I would recommend getting an inflattable kayak since Id imagine it would be hard to store anything else in a dorm room. Being able to float some water would open up alot of places for you, particularly on Barren River, places like Sallys Rock, Martinsville Ford, or even right there in town. Id also recommend driving to the Barren Lake spillway. Its not far from Bowling Green and some good fishing if you don't have a boat. If your persistent you will have 100 places to fish by the time you graduate.

Welcome to Bowling Green! I have lived here for 10 years now and absolutely love it! bg64vw is right on with his recommendations. I would add Three Springs park as well (straight down Three Springs road off of Scottsville Rd, right before you go over I-15). Don't go there with the expectations of catching big bass....but there are lots of fish in there....everything from lm bass (5-16"), some big bluegills, big redears, channel cats, crappie, carp, and trout during the winter months. It's accesible all around it and is even more fun in a canoe or little boat. Barren river tailwaters is probably your best bet in getting into some nice fish.....big hybrids, catfish, crappie, blue gills, gar, lm & sm bass, and even some muskies up that high. Don't forget the Barren River as it goes through town, lots of fish as well. Also, Shady Hollow lake...some good fishing fairly close. Welcome!

Shanty Hollow Lake, I never noticed much in the way of bank fishing.

Barren and Green River, Three Springs Park, Drakes Creek at Phil Moore Park, and try this sucker out > http://www.trailsrus.com/blueways/

You can weed through the access points and find some worth fishing and wading. There are good smallmouth in some of these creeks if you know where to go. Plus muskie in Drakes and Barren.

And I forgot. Go down to Preston Center and see about renting a kayak or canoe. That will open up all kinds of water for you.
