My son and I went river muskie fishing this evening. We had a few follow-ins and I caught and released this 41.5 inch female.
She put up a good fight and made several runs before we could get her into the net. Those long fights sure do make it fun...

Great job man. You seem to know what you are doing on these musky, you have posted some impressive pics. I might have to float Barren this year, as I now live in Glasgow, and try to land one. Which river was this one on? And again great catch
My curiosity has gotten the better of me, so I have a question about musky. Are those things edible? Don't get me wrong although I have never fished for them, I probably wouldn't try it if I caught one. It seems that I have read that they were very bony. Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks
It was on Barren River.
My son and I practice catch and release, but we did have to keep one fish that we couldn't get revived. I wish that they didn't taste good and that they were really boney; but they do and they aren't....My curiosity has gotten the better of me, so I have a question about musky. Are those things edible? Nicely done, that background looks beautiful to, I love this time of year.
We floated Barren a few years back and in this one hole, almost every time we got to it we would either see or have this one big musky hit our lures, light line and a small lure does not a musky rig make lol lol lol. And this was over 15 years ago, seems like there population has grown since then.
Musky are very edible but also very boney....IMO they are the third best fish to eat around here behind walleye and crappie....They have Y bones that can be very difficult to navigate and a red strip of meat that you will have to remove....If you decide to clean one make sure you go over it with a fine tooth comb to make sure you get all the Y bones....I like to cut it into small chunks and deep fry it....also makes it alot easier to see if you've removed the bones properly
You have this river muskie thing down. Nice fish!
