Now til march is best. 3/4oz jig head painted with a very bright color. Tipped with a 3" grub in a matching color or white tipped with a minnow. Also I suggest a a stinger hook.

Thats if your fishing the Ohio or other deep body of water with current.
Night time is best.
Justin is giving you solid advice. A stinger is mandatory this time of year, and will make or break a trip. I tend to liveline 3" chubs or wild shiners on the Ky. river, and sauger seem to always pick the bait up from the rear, hence the "stinger". The jig rig is nasty effective on the Ohio, but for the finicky waters of the Ky, and feeder creeks, I tend to let the fish do the work instead of me. Don't neglect Justin's word on this matter, as he is right on the money. Good luck, ...Merrry Christmas!
