My suggestion would be to find where the creek is shallow and fish there. We tried to fish around a couple of the boat ramps, and it just seemed too muddy and it had too much traffic.
We went not 3-4 miles upstream, and found that the creek had changed all together. It was a rock-pebble bottom, pretty shallow in places with some spots waist-to-chest deep.
We had to ask permission from a homeowner that lived next to the creek for permission to park in their driveway and access the creek, and they let us without a problem, and were very friendly.
We caught hundreds of NICE rock bass on 4" purple worms, and several nice pumpkinseed bream. We also caught several small largemouth bass, but not the first smallmouth.
