    Cumberland

Anybody been out on Cumberland the last couple days? Just wondering what the lake is like and what the shad are doing?

Word has it the shad are almost non existent and the lake is FULL of trash everywhere. I think it's safe to say we can write off another Spring at the big C. Mother nature sure ain't being nice the last few years....

There are some being caught. Just because "I" can't catch any doesn't mean that there aren't some that can't be caught. My suggestion is just to go fishing, enjoy the outdoors, and enjoy the day. Really fishing conditions are the same for everyone and I for one won't let that stop me from going. If it's trashy (logs and trees floatin), I'm gonna use some common sense and not run on plane in these areas. But there are areas where one can run for long stretches without seeing any debree. Good luck and let us know.

    Later and good fishing,

P.S. Remember a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work. Enjoy and be careful!!

I went from the dam to past Beaver Creek Marina and back this morning at 25-30 mph and did not have any problems. Most of the wood down there is concentrated in defined areas areas. There was some big stuff. Lots of trash blew into halcombs Landing ramp with a storm. With the wind I guess it can change pretty fast. A friend was up in Greasy and said it was full of trash.

There were alewives flipping on the bank in a cove between the dam and Indian from about 4am est to first light when I was there netting bait. Heard some stripers hitting the bait (might have been small..none within eye site).

The sound of shotguns going off and people doing cannon balls off the top of the rock cliff walls is over for a few years I would say. I'll never forget the first time I fished at night in the spring, I thought someone was shooting at us. Come to find out it was just big stripers busting shad on the banks. Those were the good old days.

i have pictures of the logjams in front of jamestown on tuesday afternoon and at times you would have had to completely stop and dig out a path, i know ....we had to do this just to get to the slip we are "borrowing" because we cant even get to our slips. funny thing is 2 hours later you could plane out and run for 5 miles without worrying too much. bottom line is the conditions are changing through out the day and night....and at the end of the day it's YOUR boat run it how you want, i will idle in MY boat lol, my wife knows how much i love my boat
bait is harder to catch than i can ever remember, if you can catch bait though you will catch stripers. and if you arent too worried about size you can catch alot of small bass om topwater early in the morning, its still fishin and its still alot of fun.
at the end of the day its better than working, shopping, mowing the grass, and about a thousand other things i can think of, so as bassmaster puts it....hook the boat up and go fishing ....its that easy. just dont have high expectations and enjoy it for what it is....a way to get out of the house.
personally i am at chickamauga right now having a ball, nothing big but alot of 'em. good luck all

I think I'm gonna tow to Russell Springs, pull in the Kmart lot, and park with the boat stern facing the main road. Then cast 5 dollar bills on bottom rigs into the McDonalds parking lot, and see how many Fish Fillets I catch.

I'd rather lose a dozen fives, then one prop.

    Re: Cumberland

I fished Pumpkin Creek yesterday morning before the storms blew through. The lower half was gin clear and the upper half was slightly stained. From the state launch ramp to the state dock you could see 20 feet down. I saw a lot of bedding large mouth and smallies. Didn't notice a whole lot of trash to be honest, fishing was fairly good, I managed 3 Largemouths between 13 and 17, a bunch of little smallies, Lg mouths and kentuckys and a nice 4 pound Smallmouth, all on a shaky head and wacky worm. I didn't venture out on to the main lake because I didn't want to be to far from the launch and a storm blow in on me. So I am not sure the conditions out there. If you don't mind getting back in the creeks and you want to fish Cumberland, then pumpkin is definitely an option. Good luck.

Let's clarify a bit. The lake is in good water conditions in spots and terrible in others. I was there last week and drove right by you Dave put in at Grider twice. Yes that end of the lake is in good shape but east end and around Jamestown was horrible. Wind is playing a pivitol role right now. I could not even put in at Halcombs on Wednesday or Thursday, if I could post a pic I would to prove it was the worst I have ever seen in that bay, looked like a BFI landfill except floating.

Now fishing is decent one day and terrible the next. Personally I'm half way decent on that lake this time of year and I thought it was painfully slow. The water came up 18 inches while I was there and I know that didn't help. I talked to probabaly 10 or 12 guys at Grider and some at the Pumkin creek state ramp and also at the LC country store including Morgan's guide service and NOBODY was catching anything to get excited about. Maybe you have them all cornered Dave but if you do you are the only one I've heard of that has right now...................The night bite and shad aren't doing hardly anything and I'm talking to guys that fish that lake all the time and recent. Personally I ain't staying up all night for hopes of a short keeper, a few 18 inchers and one or two walleye, lol.
