Re: barren state park ramp pls read and reply

last year the corp closed both barkley and ky lake to boat traffic when it was high to prevent property damage as well as the ramp having guard rails signs and other fixures under the water.
but to answer your question yes it is about safty as well as property damage. damaged docks are unsafe.
it seams easy for you to complain so i would assume if that was one of your boats at the marina you would be first in line to complain about the ramp being open causing lots of problems there.
the closed ramp doesnt prevent wakes but it minimizes the wakes as there are not large tourny and parking up and down both sides of the road people are not taking risks and parking in a flooded lot. so it isnt about just one thing it is about lots of things. the most important isnt that fisherman have unlimited access it is about being responsible and taking a precaution. there are lots of water and other ramps , fish are everwhere not just in a hole you cant reach, expand you lake knowledge and fish somewere new.

seems to me you do not know your lake knowledge if you got to walnut creek it looks the same as the state even with a guard rail under the water to my knowledge there is nothing there to stop the waves and the idle zone is only near the marina then to the narrows only a small break there and as far as the penisalua there is not one but it is protected by the cove i do not see them complaining about hybrid fisherman in the parking lot there and yes the lower parking lot is under water at the state you need to research about who owns what and runs what the state park is seperate from the marina in fact the park is leased from the core then the marina is owned by one person they have a secondary lease from the state as a ground frontage only to have access to electric and set there gas pump in fact about last year i spoke with sam divine at the state office to have the parking lot cleared and reopen because lisa at the park was dragging her feet on getting it done and the lower parking lot was still under water then i have dealt with many things at the lake so until you have full knowledge get your story straight last year at lbl they closed it do to debri coming down river and the unsafe baoting if barren was unsafe then all ramps would be closed the only reason the other ramps are closed is because the whole parking lots are coverd except the new ramp port oliver and har to launch from a flat surface contact carlos lopez at the core office and ask him yourself number is 646 2055 and if you would like contact to coast guard and officials at the state feel free to ask i have all the available from state commisioner on down the line the only reason it is closed is wayne at the marina is raising enough heck and causing enough problems that they are scared to stand up to him and set him straight when all he has is a ground frontage agreement he does not have anything to do with hte ramp except running to lisa and crying about parking if you do not have enough sense to put a boat in safe stay at home it would be like telling some one that rides a motorcycle he can ride during high traffic volume or telling bicycles they can ride on roads but they obey same laws as vehicles so fell free to email me your number and i will give you a full run down on who and what is in charge over there been there done that

I would like to buy a comma, a period or some other form of punctuation please!

Who told you the marina operator is the reason it is closed? Did you actually ask someone in an official capacity why the ramp was closed? I would love to know who told you that it was closed due to the marina operator. If you have a name of an official that said it was closed because of the marina operator and don't want to post than name on here, please PM me the name.

    Say what now?

They closed Barkley and Ky due to all the drift. If you will remember those lakes were opened while still quite high and the bays were never really closed.

This year they were not closed at all while at a higher level. Care to expound on that?

If there are parking spots open at Barren open up the ramp. Simple as that.

You are correct on one thing. I don't really care about the boats at the marina. I observe the no wake signs and that seems plenty good enough.

Please take the time to eplain the difference between the marina at the state park and the one at Walnut creek though.

Wow, I tried reading that but got lost. A little punctuation goes a long way!

Wonder why he is so worried about it? Baileys and Walnut Creek are just a 15min drive away. I put in at Baileys yesterday afternoon about 5:30, one boat trailer in the parking lot.

guess it dont matter what we say or what the real reason is you just want to whine about the marina and have your way grow up!! The difference is about 100 tons. one is more forgiving. The state dock broke several steel anchor cables last year with high water. Most was blamed on the wakes. This may or may not have anything to do with it. But either way sounds like you have a problem the reason as long as it isnt what YOU want... selfish I say.

Re: barren state park ramp pls read and reply

I may be able to shed some light on the situation we have on barren. Here it is in a nut shell. When the water level rises over the lower parking lot at the state park, they close the state ramp. They give several reasons for doing this that does not make any common sence. The actual reason is because the operator of the marina at the state park gets complaints from people who buy slips for houseboats. See, when that lower parking lot gets flooded they (the houseboat owners) want to park in the public boat parking spaces. And if a tournament is going out of that ramp on a weekend and the (houseboat owners) drive down they would not have any parking spaces execept up at the parking lot close to the lodge. It all boils down to MONEY TALKS. It does not matter that the ramp is funded by everyone who pays taxes in kentucky. Things are going to be catered to the ones who pay that monthly slip fee. Is it right? well, thats not for me to judge. But since i live on this lake, one thing in the post above is correct. There are SEVERAL other ramps that are open that have more obstructions and pose a danger greater than the state dock. One thing in the above post that i dont understand, and maybe someone can explain, is why is there not a break wall facing the main lake. In one of the above post, it says there is a break wall on the peters creek side, but not anything to break the wakes on the main lake side. That just seems odd or an extreemly bad design if i understand it correctly since the main lake would cause more wake than the peters creek side.

Could not have said it better myself. The reason there is not a break wall is when it is at summer pool they have the riprap. They do not want to spend the money out of there pocket to protect what is there s durning high water. Seems the only one that agrees with it being closed is the one that has a boat at the state marina. So go figure that one out wtih the parking. But i do believe he fishes some tournaments at times. I guess it is not disrupting they lot when he fishes.
