Green River Lake tips for kids.

Heading to Green River Lake this weekend and bringing a couple young "first timers" with me and would like to show them a good time. Anyone have any information on the crappie or walleye fishing down there lately? Or any other species for that matter. Just would love to show the youngsters a good time and get them hooked so any information on location, depth, best time of day, baits... anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated. Will most likely be putting in down towards the dam. Thanks~

have been catching crappie on structure in water about 18' deep and fishing 12'deep. If you want lots of fish, the flats on the right out of holmes bend is loaded with short fish to keep the young ones busy.

Lots of bass fisherman have caught a ton of walleye recently...Just don't expect to keep the kids entertained as they're few and far between...Bluegill would be your best bet as they're littering the banks right now...you can pull up to just about any point or piece of cover and fish shallow and keep the younguns busy for hours...boat traffic will be very heavy tommorow, I know of 2 tournaments during the day...Be careful out there and good luck, i hope you get them hooked for life

Just wanted to thank you gentlemen again. We did some searching around without much action in the deeper water where I figured they would be with the water temp as high as it is, but managed to get back into one of the creeks in 6-9 feet of water and had a good time with the crappie and bass. Caught them on a variety of spinner rigs, jigs, and then had a couple minnows to work with as well. Caught some nice fish that put up a pretty good fight for the younger ones. They were all excited to tell their parents about the trip so I'd say they probably had a great time! I just love getting more and more young kids hooked on fishing... makes your day to see their faces light up when they get one on!

My hubby said he used to see the same thing happening with the white bass during the runs. He said they kept anything with a head and a tail and now the white bass are all but gone from Green River lake.

I guess you think the Amish have caught all the fish! That is kind of funny, being the Amish are the best fishermen in the world or maybe they catch them and you can't.For real there are still plenty of walleyes in green river lake as for the white bass the Amish did not catch them out they all died, ask the Kfw.They are not sure why.Since then they have restocked white bass in green.

Ditto, in fact all the adults and kids would each carry out their limit everyday so they do know how to catch fish. However their sportsmanship does deserve to be questioned. I wonder how the bass populations would hold up if every bass fisherman kept every legal fish up to their legal limit everytime they went fishing? No laws broken but it would devastate the population.
