Were you fishing a tourny at Guntersville? What was your lure of choise (was it something RED)?

    Awesome fish!

10lb 10oz on Lake Fork in the spring.

I've had 6 or 7 LM between 7lb 9oz and 7lb 15oz this year. Not one over 8 though. Its been a tough year night fishing, and thats when I usually catch my bigger fish.

I wish that I was fishing a tournament that day. I was the best day that I have had in many of year. My best five that day was a little over 25lbs. I caught her on a purple hase trick worm on a shakey head jig. The 7.3 was caught on a 7" watermelon red Senko, again on a shakey head jig in 20ft. of water. This was caught in a BFL tournament. All my SM's were caught on a purple 4" tube with a rattle. The water was crystal clear and you could see them strike the tube.

I love fishing down there at Guntersville but I tell ya. The time's I've went, I didn't do my research like I should have (to see if there are any tourney's going on) and the lake has been PACKED!!! But I still love fishing there. I read in one of those bass mag's that the AVE LM in Guntersville is like 5 to 6 lbs! That pretty crazy!

By the way...did you go to the Wal-Mart there close to the Goose Ramp, I think it is? They have a LM stuffed in the back above the gun counter. I think it weighed between 14 to 17 lbs! I wonder what the record is down there?

I have seen the mount at Walmart. I aleays stay at the Days Inn near that Wal-mart, and get my lincense there.
The Lake Guntersville record for Largemouth is 14lbs 8oz. The record for Kentucky Bass is 4 lbs 11 oz.
I had a 12+ on in 2009 and she broke 60lb braid. Wish I could boated her. She would be my personal best.
Bill Day(Frankfort) had a big fish in the BFL down there a couple of years ago. Forgot the weight, but it was huge.

Re: Big fish of the year so far...

I have had a tough year of fishing. Work has been the dickens and we moved which has really cut into my fishing time. But although I haven't gotten out much I have had several good outings on the big lakes. Back in April I had one day on Barkley with one LM over 7, another over 6, a 5.5, and a 4.5 all on spinnerbaits. In June I had a night outing and took a 6.5 and 5 LM on KY. In July out with my dad I had a 6, a 5, and one over 4 LM on the same night. I just haven't touched a SM over 3 this year which bums me something fierce...
