    Re: Trickle down economics

I think its unfair to insinuate that trickle down economics has failed. Gubment programs have failed. Attacking folks for making money is easy but I feel it's wrong. Is the liberal approach of spending our way out of debt the way to prosperity? Taxing me more the way to make me more money? Supporting failed gubment programs the way to wealth? Obamacare the way to help me increase my take home pay? Cry bay union actions demanding more money from business owners the way to a healthy economy?

I know I have seen huge increases in my salary over the period before obamy took office. Since 99 my salary has more than doubled. This is a direct result of a healthy economy (compared to now) my continuing education, job performance and a little bit of luck. The technology field I'm in has made huge advances and because of that we need educated workers. I worked my butt off, paid my dues by waiting my turn in the company and kept believing in getting what I deserve for my hard work.

I think the wall street protesters for the most part are mislead, hired and organized liberals. So I'm hearing they want us tax payers to pay more so they can receive more handouts? They are wanting the wealthy to pay more taxes and some are saying they shouldn't be required to pay back their student loans. So far from what I have watched and read these are less than desirable representatives for any responsible American. JMO....

    Bingo. We have a winner.

I worked my ass off in High School and got scholarships, because my parents didn't have the money to send me to college...and because I didn't want to graduate owing a student loan for the rest of my life.
I studied hard, didn't screw off too much, and was fortunate to have a decent noggin. Granted, everyone's situation is different, but the resources are there if you want to put in the time. I also had a part-time job, like many high school kids. I was always working.

I finished college, while working 40+ a week during my Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years...had to take many night classes after work that didn't end until 9:00 some nights, only to go home and do homework until after midnight and be up at work the next morning early. Even though I had scholarships and could have somewhat coasted by, living at home, partying all the while...I chose to get a real job during college. I worked hard. I graduated with a 3.8 GPA, money in the bank, no loans, and a head-start on my career. You might say I was "given" my scholarships, but those were earned by studying, getting 32's on ACT exams, working on my writing and communication skills, etc. They sure as hell weren't a hand out.

I've put 12 years into a job after college where I have busted my ass, putting work over social life and sometimes family in the short term, to get where I am today. Now, I'm starting to reap the reward for hard work and sacrifice. Life is more comfortable. I have a wife, baby on the way, a few dollars in the bank, stable job, and a home that I'm proud of...and I'm a fairly young fellow. (34) I am blessed, and I truly believe that it is because of putting in the hard work necessary to capitalize on the opportunities in this country. It's not because I overcome some establishment that was trying to hold me down, or because of handouts, or because of luck.

Too many want to skip the hard work and sacrifice part, and go straight to the reward. It doesn't quite work that way. I'm still working hard now to keep what I have and probably always will. I think the occupy Wall Street folks are spending their time trying to prove that there's a free lunch, when all of us in the real world know that there's no such thing. Unless you're born into money, you've got to earn it.

    Re: Trickle down economics

DJD and Splitshot both speak the truth...anin't no handouts, ain't nothing for free...or at least anything worth having doesn't come free anyway.

Hey Don...are you an RCDD? Just curious because a lot of government projects are requiring this of the engineers and designers these days...plus with all the hacking going on these days, tight security every where we go...I'm thinking the telecommunications industry will continue to climb for at least the next ten to twenty years, or at least it feels like it will anyway.

Back to the originak question...I haven't kept up with my salary like Don has...but it does seem like between 1999 or so and sometime around 2006 or 2007 my salary was encreasing very nicely, year after year. However since 2007 or 2008 it's been practically flat and just this year is finally starting to show signs of improvement, but still not like it was.

    Tim,
No never had to go in that direction with may side of the business. I am a level 3 in fire alarm, hold a state fire alarm system inspector certificate and misc other levels of certifications. We have an RCDD on staff who enables us to meet that spec.
I do mainly sales, installs when I can squeeze one in and service if it's something I went to school on. My market is Healthcare first and general commercial design build second. Fire alarm, card access, CCTV, various security systems and management of projects is where I'm at now.
