That is AWESOME! I wish I could have seen it!Stopped at Cabelas Wheeling WV store on the way back from Thanksgiving in PA. Exceptional store if you are going that way.
We walked thru the store's Aquarium. It was stock with all sorts of good stuff. We saw a 4-5 foot Musky in the tank just suspended right near the glass and a foot off the bottom. The tank also had lots of hugh bluegills. Some I'd bet ran 10-12 inches. Anyway, the wife commented the musky wasn't chasing the shiners in the tank like the bass and hybrids were. Before I could say another word, a big gill got just a little too close, and the musky lurched forward about 2 feet, opened its mouth and inhaled the bluegill! Right in front of 10-15 folks watching on. Musky started slowly swimming around the tank with it's catch as it ever so slowly kept sucking more and more of the fish in. Looked severely cool seeing the tail of the big gill stuck out of the side of the musky's mouth.
In the crowds commotion, a lady walks up to me and says with this angered look on her face "I can't believe they let those poor little fish in there with the big ones", and followed with, "Why didn't the Musky eat the little shiners?" I commented that maybe the Musky didn't want "peanuts", but instead was looking for a "steak". The lady looked at me like I was an ax murderer, and as she walked away said "Well I hope your satisfied, but I don't think that's fair to the smaller fish".
I grinned and said to the wife "I seriously doubt "fair" is a word in a Musky's vocabulary".
Just was really cool to see it happen right in front of me.
So what does the lady think happens in natural aquatic environments? Do the muskies eats the little shiners all the time? LOL!She must be a PETA member.....
Last time I was in that store was about five or six years ago. They had a tent set up outside with a bunch of marked down items.
I would have to wonder why that lady was even in that store considering her feelings about the musky eating the bluegill.
