    The Kentucky River Depth?

I am looking to fish the Ky River most likely pool 7 but I was curious if anyone could tell me the depth. I will be in my 19 ft bass boat that is an expensive jon boat till the motor gets fixed. I was thinking of putting in and fishing the circuit of the pools shoreline. Anybody able to give me any idea if that is feasible and any tips. Thanks

I fish the ky river all the time. I mainly fish pools 1-3. The depth here is 10 to 45 foot. There is a shallow spot here and there but nothing to worry about. I am not sure of the depth at pool 9 but i would think it would be 5 to 25 foot.

I fish the Boonesborough State Park pool all the time. Always forget which pool number that is. I have an 18 foot tracker boat. There are a couple of spots that get shallow on one side or the other but you can fish the entire pool. There are more sunken trees as you move up the river but as long as you stay in the middle of the river you will be fine.

Had interesting time on the Ky River

I went last week to the Camp Nelson ramp on the KY River. First, be warned that it costs $5, not free as is stated on the KY Fish and Wildlife site. I sent them a note to correct this so people are not surprised. I don't know if it is always like this, but if you put in there be careful and stay to the extreme downstream side of the ramp. There is a steep drop off if you go down the middle. The upriver side trailer tire blew out. I only have my trolling motor right now so I started up river to go to the tailwater of the dam but after 30 min and only going about a fourth of the way I gave up and just fished around the ramp area. No bass or bluegill or anything other than black colored suckers and long nose Gar (tons of both). I decided to play with the Gar out of boredom and had fun. I only boated one but had a blast with them. I did have some monster (either Gar, Muskie or Flathead) come out from under a log and rip off my bait. I was shell shocked after withnessing it. I saw the white under belly and it was a good four feet long! Cool! I am going to go back with nylon rope lures and wire leaders and see if I can't catch a bunch of the Gar and hopefully that log under a log Even with the flat tire and my boat sitting cockeyed on my boat after loading it up, I had fun because of the gar. I can't wait to fish the river again, especially once my big motor is working so I can get to the tailwater. I really recommend it to anyone. Beware that there are some shallow areas but if you are paying any attention at all and going slow you will be ok. Enjoy

Anytime you see a creek coming into the river be aware the shoal can run out into the river a long way. At times there can be trees out in the river under the water that hard to see especially closer you get to the bank.

To go a step further, sometimes the trees that you know the location of can be moved and be located further out. I hit one in a Frankfort pool. Fortunately I only skidded along side of it and no damage was done. Just be vigilant.
