Seaguar Red Label Flouro

Just thought i would share my experience wih this line...... I purchased some #15 Flouro a few months ago to try it and have now decided I won't use Flouro again. I tried several others in the past and end up with the same results......Break offs during hook sets while using soft plastics. I'm not a maniac when it comes to hook sets. I use MH 6-6 to 7ft rods and have more of a sharp upward pull as opposed to a snap or gorilla hookset like I see some folks do. I was fishing around rocks and weeds.

I have used 12-20 lb excel for 18 years and have rarely broken off on hook sets. This weekend I broke off twice with this Red Label line, I broke off once about a month ago using it. I re-tie quite often while fishing as feeling my line for nicks and scrapes is second nature for me. It's ironic that some fisherman love this stuff and I can't stand it! Now I do use it for a leader while C-rigging but that's it.

I use tungsten weights and I do peg them with rubber pegs. Heck maybe that is causing a small nick in the line? I don't usually pull the pegged sinker up since it can cause abrasion that's easy to see if your not careful. I noticed that while installing the pegs on mono and this line. Like I said, I been fishing pegged weights for years. Years ago it was with toothpicks and then screw in gambler weights and now these Peg-it's. Anyone else use this peg-it setup while Texas rigging soft plastics?

I did get hung up once and tried to pull it free but the line would not break so I know it's tough.....i stopped using it after that and went to another rod with #14 mono on it. I guess it's just not as forgiving as mono with a small undetected nick or abrasion.

I have been using seagar for years, BUT only as a leader on my braided lines. Do you wet your knot before you pull it tight? But I use a figure * knot on almost all my lines.

Yep I slobber it up good before I cinch it. I use a polamar knot. Haven't had any trouble while using it as a leader.

Don the knot is the problem, tie an improved clinch knot. I had the same bad luck and switched knots and love floro for the feel. No more problems. I am using Invenix (sp) good line.

Just like ZX150 said, your knot is probably the problem...Fluoro doesn't do as well with knots that have a lot of friction...I use 20lb Invizx when fishing plastics or jigs, and haven't had a bit of problem out of it....In fact, more times than not I wind up with the boat anchored down when I get hung up...I've heard guys talk about how bad the lighter Seaguar products break, including the 15lb line...Try you a spool of 20lb Invizx with a different knot, and if you're still not happy, then go back with the mono...I set the hook very aggressively and occasionally broke 20lb Pline CX Premium, but don't have that problem with the Invizx

Red Label Seaguar is pretty good, and the pricepoint is SPOT ON. I purchased some at the cabin and used it for 2 weekends. I liked it so much, I ended up purchasing a filler spool. I have lots of it now

I'll try the different knot since I still have some line left. I like the idea of #20.

Red label is all I have used this year and mostly 12 or 15lb test. With no problem with line breaking, in fact past weekend twice I actually straighten out hook on 3/8 jig pulling out of stumps with out breaking line. It is the knot, and its not the palomar knot, its the way it is tied. It is easy to twist the line over itself when tying the palomar and this will definitely lead to line breaking. If I am rushed to retie I will use improved clinch or jigging(i think its called)knot. I cant believe anyone who throws a worm or jig on florocarbon and experiences the feel would go back to mono. I would find a knot that works for me and enjoy the sensitivity florocarbon provides.

I like the red label and have straightened a few hooks pulling on hang up while using a palomar knot. Take a look at this video, it explains what papa said about twisting the line. The other thing to remember is when the line feels the slightest bit frayed it is time to rip off a section and retie.

Totally understand your point about going back to mono. I have been so used to mono and the feel that I still catch my fair share of fish with folks in the same boat using braid or Flouro. I am going to try tying the knots better and even a different knot. I'm open to trying these things since the idea of more sensitivity while fishing plastics is a great advantage. I was frustrated as all get out Saturday when breaking off several times and losing a few dollars of weights. I respect others opinions and will see how this works for me......I hope it I get it right and learn to stick with the Flouro.
