    Interesting Cards football note

I know have talked about Charlie Strong's recruiting in Florida and one thing people try and say is that he gets the guys that can't go to Miami, Florida or Florida St. I have often told people they are wrong about that, these are kids that can play anywhere in the country. Well here is an interesting line from today's CJ:

"The Cardinals always have recruited in Florida, but third-year coach Charlie Strong has had unparalleled success in talent-rich Miami-Dade County. Consider this: U of L signed five of the top 15 recruits -- more than Miami, Florida State and Florida combined -- in The Miami Herald's top 25 rankings for 2011."

Yep......I had a UK guy at our watering hole where we play cornhole tell me this.

Yea Bridgewater is good but he couldn't make it at an SEC school that's why he ended up at Louisville.
Bridgewater will play on Sunday's barring a severe injury. The kid has all the tools including the brains. Three and four star talent often becomes better than five star talent in my opinion. Teddy was the Ville's first five star recruit though.

Face it Tim, if Louisville lined up in a year or two and beat LSU, Florida, Georgia and Bama by 50 points the media and the fans would still have the sticky saliva drool on the shirt for the SEC. It is what it is, college football is a flippin beauty contest played out in the press and on ESPN..

I'll actually have to agree....I'm not sure there's not a SEC school that ol Teddy wouldn't be starting for....However it takes more than one player to make a team, and the past several years I don't think there was a team that could compete with the SEC elite...Since Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, and Vince Young graduated, I haven't seen a team with the overall athleticism that has been shown by Bama, LSU, and Florida (Urban Meyer era)...I don't think this years Bama squad is nearly as good as last years, but I believe they're head and shoulders above the rest of the country....I hope they finish undefeated so they can make it to the championship game, and the best of the best from the rest of the country makes it there with them...I don't care if it's Louisville, Oklahoma, or Ohio St, Bama will beat them handily

I hated it last year that two SEC teams wound up in the championship game, but I think the two best teams in the country played each other....The SEC has won the past 6 national championships, how are people still arguing that this isn't the power conference for the time being....I'm not saying that the tide couldn't shift soon, but for now, the SEC dominates college football

Don't get me wrong now Steven I'm not saying they aren't the premiere conference in all D1 football I would be a dummy if I said that. But I do think S Carolina is overrated, Arkansas, Georgia and a few others. Now Bama and LSU has NFL type rosters, they aught to, it's the best the Alumini can afford.....

F-I-L I agree with you for the most part, but I still say the Louisville Orange Bowl team could have competed with any team from anywhere. I also contend that if (IF is a big word in this context) Mike Bush doesn't go down against UK, they would have been the mythical national champions. Florida would have not got in so it would have been the Cards vs. OSU and I believe we were better than both teams that year.

IMO barring injury next season (another big IF) the Cards will be back to that level. I still contend that Louisville is still too young this year, but next season's team will start a bunch of 3-year starters that are juniors with plenty of game experience and the depth (which is why teams like Alabama and LSU thrive on) will be comparable to those teams.

Hey and nobody even talked about the lowly, pitaful pathetic Big East Pitt Panthers laying down some smack on the the Hokies ranked 13 at the time. I bet Whitebass didn't see that one coming.....

No love I tell ya, LOL.....

It is typical, I have posted facts and figures about it for the last few years on here and elsewhere, and everyone wants to spend their time knocking down the Big East. In the meantime, they have proven themselves to be head and shoulders above the ACC and pretty well on par with the Big 10.
Because the Big East doesn't have teams with the names of Miami, Florida St., Michigan, Ohio St., etc. they lose respect.

Yep listened to K.Blirbstreet on THE DOGS today. He did not give the big e any love. Fine,,,,,,, but what is the beloved SEC against the Sunbelt thus far for 2012? Or against the Big E. What is the ACC against the Big E thus far?

We need to keep Strong or get Petrino back.

I hear alot of Uk fans talking that they want to stab U of L in the back and hopefully get Bobby Petrino as thier next coach...Cause lord knows, Joker is gone either before the end of the season or at the end...No matter he is gone....

If UK does get Petrino, it's gonna be funny as heck...UK and U of L just sign a contract and swap your coaches out whenever you get tired of the job their doing.....lol......

I doubt UK would hire him, but they should. Forget what you think about him as a person, the guy can flat coach football! He is an AZZ, but he knows how to coach the game. Of course, I don't know if UK would want him since he did refer to them as "those slapd*cks in Lexington."

Kentucky is a basketball school and could give two spits less about football.

Papa Brooks was on the Joe B and Denny show the other day and was throwing UK and especially Mitch Barnhut under and I mean UNDER the bus.

I think if UK wanted a football coach that had been ran out of town at another school they would have pursued Mike Leatch, but with that being said, you never know what will happen in college athletics....It's a proven fact that if you can get results on the court, field, etc, you will have a job no matter what you've done....I'm a UK nut, but lets face it, Cal has left his last two schools on probation, and he got one of the elite jobs in college basketball....Rick P had his off the court issues that if he were a lesser coach, might have cost him his job....Billy Clyde, shew, don't even get started on him....If you want to look back a little further, Bob Knight got ran out of IU, and went to Texas Tech....I hope for the sake of my UK pride that we don't hire Petrino, even though I think he would atleast make us semi-relevant in the SEC....U of L went about hiring a football coach the correct way with Charlie Strong, a budding young assistant at a big time school, and it is paying off for them....I hope UK follows that stategy, but I'm sure we'll wind up some run of the mill bum that might get us to a bowl game every 4th year
