Most were hovering around 20 feet deep that day but several times the whole screen glowed from 20 feet to 50 feet as we passed over a school of stripers. The constant weather changes seems to have given them lock jaw though as we only picked up 1 24 inch striper. We also had 2 other rods go down and the bait pulled off but no solid hook ups.
As for the stripers leaving that end of the lake. The information I was given was that around mid-July the stripers do follow the cooler oxygen rich water and slowly migrate down towards the dam until mid-September when things start cooling off and then migrate back up. So late summer when the water is hot, Fishing Creek is the dead sea when it comes to stripers. Mid-October to mid-July you will be good to go.
