In the scenario I mentioned it was at night in the summertime & we were flat catching bass on jigs & texas rigs. What is your opinion of what causes a shut down in this very situation as it has happened several times to us on Green River Lake & I've called it & they shut down right after the cloudline passed over head & it remained bad fishing all night. What would you have done differently ??? Thanks
Not sure if I would have done anything differently but probably would have started working shadow edges in this situation but hard to tell without having been there myself and knew all the conditions. I would suspect you were working a crayfish pattern with the lures you were using but not sure. Crayfish would be my primary pattern at night during the summer. Probably the fish were feeding heavily under the lower light conditions of the cloud cover and the lighter conditions of the clouds having disappeared exposed both prey and preditor and they reacted to this change in the environment....without having been there I can only guess...but one thing I do know, fish do not feed all the time and if they are feeding heavily, sooner or later they are gonna get full and a change in their environment that would have a negative impact on their ability to easily attack prey can certainly slow down or shut off a feeding spree. In the scenario I mentioned it was at night in the summertime & we were flat catching bass on jigs & texas rigs. I do the same thing when Aunt Flo from the Red Sea visits every month.![]()
Thanks.
buck sez that the fish come shallow 2 times a day to feed and then they go home (depths) could be that feeding was over and they went back deep, maybe you could have picked up a few more going deep, just a thought, don't know what you tried, have you guys tried the new app for smart phones called my fishing adviser by north american fisherman? it works extreamly well, me and my daughter went to taylorsville to crappie fish, we checked the app and it said where and when we should try for crappie and that the bite would taper off at about 1030 and that is about the time they shut down.In the scenario I mentioned it was at night in the summertime & we were flat catching bass on jigs & texas rigs.
