    Laurel River Lake

Hey guys it's that time of the year again. My yearly trip with my dad to Laurel. We normally troll the dam during the day and fish dead line with lights at night for trout. The past 5 years have been horrible fishing. Prior to that we used to tear them up but lately we are lucky to catch 2 or 3. I know the changed up the stocking which I think has a lot to do with it but I have heard that people have been doing really good on the other end of the lake by Grove Marina. Does anyone have any idea where would be a good spot to try the night bite over there? Again we will be fishing for trout so I'm not looking for anyone's hot spots for walleye or smallies. I have pretty much given up on catching those down there.

I have been told that the mouth of Spruce Creek is a good spot to catch some trout. Just word of mouth you might want to give it a try.

Thanks! we might give that a try. Have you heard if they hug a bank or a depth on either side of the mouth or do they go back into the creek at all? I know this lake is full of trout and it just really bugs the heck out of me that our old honey hole dried up! we used to absolutly crush them on good weather days.

I never fish for trout, but I see a lot of boats fishing at night under lights. out in front of Holly bay marina in the deep water.

It has been many years since we have done it, but there is an island on the main lake just outside of Grove marina. We use to tie up to the "cliffs" on the Grove marina side of the island and fish for trout under lights. You just have to experiment with the depth. Like I said, it has been a while since I have been down there, but I think I am describing it accurately. Good Luck!

Yea I know the island you are talking about well. We tried trolling during the day to locate them but never got so much as a bite so we decided to just go back to where we normally fish and give that another try... all in all after a full day of fishing we caught one trout.... I am afraid to say that we won't be going back there anymore. It used to be a fun trip to go on and it still is but can fish somewhere a lot closer to home and not catch anything. We talked about it while we were down there and the idea for taking a 5 day trip to Spanish river in Canada came up... I am ALL for that!
