Just started mixing my gas and oil.

    Hey Guys,
I have just started mixing my oil and gas recently. Yeah, finally disabled the oil VRO system. I have a question... I'm mixing 1 ounce of ethanol treatment to 10 gallons of gasoline. I'm using 50:1 on my oil to gas mixture. This may not be a good idea, but what would be the correct ratio of ethanol treatment to a gallon of oil? If its not wise to mix the two, please give your thoughts. Thanks for all comments.

    Ethanol Treatment

Most say 1 ounce per 10 gallons if used regularly. What brand are you using ???

I would not mix the ethanol treatment with the oil. I would add them seperately to the tank first, then add the gasoline last. A better solution would be to purchase ethanol free gasoline, if you can find it.

I agree with Sweetwater and I would follow the label directions for the ethanol treatment. The bottle of Stabil I bought this year contained revised directions from prior years.

Just fill up the tank. Add the proper amount of oil. Add the proper amount of gas treatment as indicated on the label.

Get a clear tallish plastic container (preferably with a lid). Measure the proper amount of ounces of oil per gallon with a kitchen type measuring thing where you can measure ounces. Measure and pour the proper amount of ounces of water for one gallon of gas in the container and mark it 1 gallon with a sharpie. Do the same thing and mark it 2 gallons and so on. This is much easier than doing the calculations over and over.

Bass pro makes a ready made measuring container that does this same thing.
Wallgreens sells a plastic container for drinking with a red top that is about 3.5 inches x 3.5 inches by four or eight inches tall.

I put gas treatment in every time I fill up. You never know when you might not be able to use the boat for a few months and this way you don't have to remember what you did.

Thanks for all the advise. The brand of oil I'm using is Pennzoil Marine XLF TC-W3 2-Cycle Engine.

Not sure what engine you are running or what size it is but I find Pennzoil not to be a very good 2 cycle oil.

Post Here is how I would do this

Since the gas treatment is for the gasoline not the oil/gas mixture I would put the stabil in the gas can first before adding any oil. Now you can use the gas for anything and it will stay good for a while longer with the stabil in the gas.

If you want to mix some oil in the gas for 50:1 then mixed one can of 50:1 oil in six gallons of treated gasoline.

My boat's external gas tank is 6 gallons so this work for me. You may need to use more gas and thus more oil and you will have to measure the amount of oil to use by knowing how many gallons of gas are in your tank.

Or you can make up several six gallons of gas/oil and poor them into your larger tank. <-- it would work but it would be a pain to do.

they make measuring devices that tell you how many onces of il to use for different gas mixtures.

For my Echo Gas trimmer which also used a 50:1 gas/oil mixture I use one can of the echo oil to one gallon of gasoline. I also add the stabil to the gas first then mix the gas with the oil and put in a separate gas can that's marked for Echo 50:1 ratio.

I found a funnel at wallymart with a 32oz capacity that has a lid and a hose with a valve to control the amount going in. Since 50:1 ratio is 3oz per gallon a full funnel is 9 gallons of gas.

Here's an easy way to calculate. Gas oil mixture.

    Gas Oil Mixture Ratio Calculator

Lools like 2.56 oz per galon

    Save a few dollars.

World champion power boat racer Jay Smith says it's the cleanest burning 2 cycle oil going other than a full synthetic. I've been running it for years & never once had a motor problem. I currently running evinrude/johnson oil from walmart, but will be going back to Pennzoil XLF when it's gone What happened to yours while running it ??? Not dissing you just curious.
