Getting ready for old man winter.

this old Trane High Efficency XE900 heat pump was installed back in 1987 and the thing still worked fine, but after 26 years of service, it was time to replace it.

just got finished with the install, of another Trane XL18i 3 ton unit with a Tam7 3 & 1/2 TON AIR hANDLER WITH THE CLEANEFFECTS WHOLE HOUSE Air Cleaner. if this one last as long as the old one, by then I'll most likely be on the other side of the Great Gulf, with the Mercy of the Lord of course.

Replaced mine last year and it was original. This house is 27-30 yrs old land my old one was a carrier and my new one is an American Standard. My next item to replace will be my Hot Water unit. It's 13 years old and I'm not sure if I should just replace it or wait until it stops working? My concern is it pops a leak from rust and floods the house....anyone have any experience with this? Advice on when to replace one in the name of preventative maintenance?

DJD, American Standard and Trane are owned by Ingersoll Rand, my old air handler was an American standard, and it still worked fine after 26 years. a new water heater would be more efficient for you, I run a garden hose from my heater to the outside and drain it ever 3 years, cleans the bottom of the tank out, they work better and last longer.

I do this draining thing every few years too. They put a metal holding tank under my hot water heater and it's got a drain that will drain any water the leaks out the bottom of the water heater into my crawl space under the house. It's a drain pain of some sort. I'd recommend putting one under your hot water heater just in case it starts to leak.

Also check on the anode or is it the cathode. These can be replaced and any stray electrons will eat away at the anode or the cathode instead of the metal of your water heater.
