Fish the lights around the docks but seeing as to how some people here think they own the light penetrating the water and sub surface down to were the light disapates in the water then bring your own light you will attract the shad and then the hybrids whites largemouths and possibly crappie find a good ledge and let the light down and bam ur in the money

I've always had decent luck throwing crankbaits parallel to the steep banks & cliff walls ... out over the 15-20ft depth range. Also throw a 4" craw (texas rigged) and work it down to 20' or so. Usually have already done this by mid June, but health problems have kept me off the water since May. July night fishing always seemed to be a bit slower, and the fish would be deeper ... but, that don't always happen that way. And, yes ... I'm talking about fishing on Herrington Lake.

If those baits/methods don't work ... I'm not opposed to rip jigging a Silver Buddy in/around the dock lights (the big halogen ones that are just above the water's surface), trying to hook up with a Hybrid Striper or two.

Some of my more productive cranks are : Luhr Jensen Hot Lipps ... 7A & 8A Bomber Model A ... Heddon Hellbender ... Wiggle Wart

A 3/4 -1 oz. black or red Colorado blade spinnerbait is a good producer at night.

I've always been told (and used) dark colors at night, but I'm sure someone on here has a different opinion

Dark colors work fine at night ... I used to use blue or black worms with a tail of a contrasting color (chartreuse or red). Adding sound to the plastics will also help, as in a rattle insert (I generally use one in my 4" craws). Cranks that have a hard wiggle & rattles will draw more attention than those without.

I generally start the night at dark, throwing the plastics ... then if I'm not getting bites, or the bites are scattered or down around the 12-15' level, I'll start throwing the cranks.

If you start getting bites or follows from Gar .... get off that bank & go somewhere else !!

And remember ... you must keep your 360deg white transom light ON while fishing navigable waters at night.

black and blue jig with zoom swim chunk or paca craw trailer around 45 degree banks and docks or a 10 inch dark worm tipped in red garlic dye. Good luck!!
