Well this one didn't make the news but the NEw Albany Fire dept had to rescue another boater from the lower pool yesterday..My buddy Don was out there when it happened . They tried to run over the old dam and destroyed their lower unit. ...Thats what the chute is for folks if it's below 17ft I wouldn't try to run over that rockpile ...just sayin
Thanks. That is a dangerous place down there.

A boater who went the wrong direction on the North Elkhorn Creek was rescued from the Great Crossing Dam by Scott County Firefighters early Tuesday morning.
The boat became lodged on a tree, which was resting against the dam, said Batallion Chief Justin Baker.
The boater was attempting to go fishing, but apparently got disoiented in the darkness and headed down the the creek toward the dam after putting in from the ramp, Baker said.
"Instead of going up the creek he went down the creek," Baker said.
The fire department launched a rescue boat which breifly became caught up on the same tree, Baker said, but crews were able to bring the boater and his craft safely back to shore.
In all, crews were on the scene a little more than an hour, Baker said.
Here's the thing guys, most newbies that put in down there have zero clue it exists. The state of Indiana really needs to put together a detailed map outside of the boat launch area with the danger areas being highlighted. People could then study the map before putting in and haveca general idea where danger lurks.
I'm in the process of trying to learn the falls area for catfishing and it's a challenge because there's little information regarding underwater rocks/dangers. I fish both, the Barkley and Ky Lake dams and they're easier than this fossil bed dam up here.
It is tough , but I have been fishing it for years and I have learned by trial & error .. IF you wanna put in at Clarksville and wanna run to New Albany use the chute ..it runs adjacent to the locks .Here's the thing guys, most newbies that put in down there have zero clue it exists. Now the old dam eveyone hits is where the guy won theat big bass tourney a few years ago but trim up and use your trolling motor to get there from DOWN RIVER ...Not from theh ramp .run the chute and then run back up when you get to silver creek start watching for rocks
Saw one today hit both areas.....pretty sure there was damage....jeeze if you don't know the area please don't go there...this was 14 at the lower. I had 2 good bites on big bait.... that's all!
Wow the more folks go down there , the more anglers get in trouble....it the best fishing in Ky in my opinion , but man you gotta be careful ..Like my Pop said , please son dont go by yourself and wear that PFD ...he is gone now but I still heed his warning .
In the 70's him and Erine Napier were anchored by the hydro and a guy was out there in the current in rubber life raft and he lost his paddle and dove in to get it ...welll he drowned and his buddy dove in to help him and Dad and Ernie was able to get the anchor loose and rescue him but they witnessed a man drown ....YOU have to respect that River down there
