The heading says Rainbow Trout Tim....haha

Why was this post moved? Isn't this a fish related question. I tell ya what this site is getting tighter than a Mouse's ear, have no idea why this couldn't have stayed front page.

Without looking it up, I thought you couldn't use any fish under the category of "game fish" for bait. I guess Rainbow Trout (or any trout) probably fall into that category.

    used them

We used them on lake lanier, you could buy them at a lot of bait shops. You could also buy blue backed herrings, lanier stripers also can be taken on bluegills. But I prefer sammi's and spooks. I have not been there for a few years now, but december fishing there at times could be very good.

I forgot about this thread. It is illegal to use any sport fish as bait in KY with the exception of red ear under 6 inches.

The article says the fish was caught in the Tennessee portion of the Cumberland River, their regs may be different, not sure.

    it's different in Indiana

Since this is the OFF TOPIC'S forum then I would assume that it's not all just about KY in this forum.

I've heard that if you catch the fish legally then you can use it as bait. For example in IN if I catch a small bluegill on a fly rod or a hook and line and save it for using as bait for catfish later on then that is perfectly legal.

Now we have a few lakes in Evansville, IN and other spots in Southern IN that the IDNR stocks with rainbow trout during the late fall. Garvin Park is one such lake in the Central Part of Evansville, IN.

So now I'm wondering if one catches a small rainbow trout in Garvin Lake if they could turn around and use it for bait. If that trout had any size to it I'd just as soon clean and eat it myself. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I didn't move the post. Definitely a fishing question and should be on one of the fishing forums.

Would you like me to move it to the Kentucky form and keep a permanent place holder here?

Not quite sure what you are referring to – front page. Assuming you mean Kentucky forum.

I believe it is legal to use rainbow trout as bait in Tennessee. That would be the Cumberland River south of the border.
