So how much and how many.....staggering.

    https://www.nerdwallet.com/article/l....61%20trillion.

And bear in mind all of this was a personal decision/choice. No one forced these folks into debt.

Now, how many more young people would be able to get government GRANTS for colleges if the ones that voluntarily entered into a loan paid back what they owed? The ones that are now crying about not being able to pay back their loans for debts they incurred thru selfishness, are again taxing the government's budget making it harder for future kids to go to school.

I do not support giving the entitled a free lunch and taking away the funds the government needs to then assist truly under privileged/impoverished future young folks.

And last: Just maybe if colleges and state universities like UL and UK didn't think profit was the primary reason for their existence, then just maybe tuition would be lower and this mess would have not been created. Since those schools have been sucking up government grant money for decades, it’s time for the schools to forgive and repay some student debt, not all of us tax payers.

    Just thinking out loud

Doctors and lawyers to be and or graduated carry the most debt. Given the money those folks make for there skills how in earth could a financially responsible person not be able to make their college loan payments just because they are paying more for gasoline and or selected grocery items? Is it the college debt causing them financial concerns, or is the the fact that they bought too many sports cars, bought too big a house, and got too many boats that is actually causing them the financial burden that then makes it so terrrbly difficult to pay back a very low interest govt loan?

Can you say self inflicted injury?

What makes my skin crawl about all this is the dems appear to be trying to buy votes using our tax dollars.

Ideas: Instead of giving away 1.6 trillion for folks that made the decision to attend college and self inflicted that debt:
    1. Pay off the medical debts for Covid folks that can't get medical insurance.
    2. Pay off the home loans for every cop, medical first responder, state govt employee, federal govt employee, or veteran that because of their service to our country, became diabled in the line of duty.
    3. Finish the southern border wall.
    4. Declare war on the drug lords and use the noney to hire retired seals to take these colwns out.
    5. Put a roof over the head of every homeless street person, nothing fancy, just a hot and a cot and a social worked to help work on their long term recovery.

    What's your ideas?

i'm against any free handout from the government.
it's the same as giving a dope addict more dope.
all charity should come from donations, churches, etc. and it should also come with financial coaching.
we're too close to socialism now.
