Water dropping. Down about 3 feet. Bass bite is dead slow.

I caught about 5 bass in 4 hours this morning. They were all 10-12", but on an ultralight rod, they're kind of fun.

Lake looks to be down about 4 feet to my eye.

If the bass aren't biting... how are the bluegill this time of year?

I'm not sure there are any bluegill left in that lake. The two people with me were fishing for them all day with very few bites.

I caught the bass on a small spinner bait while trying to get some crappies to bite and most of them were on open banks with little cover in about 3 feet of water. I spoke to a few bass fisherman and nobody was doing anything. I was surprised that I'd caught 5 of them doing what I was doing and all those people hadn't caught any.

BTW - the last two times I've been out there I've caught crappies that were at least a little bigger than the hundreds of 5-6" crappies I've caught in the pas few years.

Well I hate to hear that. I was going to travel over there to fish. Figured if bass weren't biting I would go for some of those big bluegill I have heard so much about. Now, I think I will not drive 2 hours to fish in dead water. Thanks!

It is a good lake in the fall for panfish. there have been some bigger crappie caught this year, bluegill and cats have been fair to good all summer. This time of year the Redear sunfish get fiesty and they are in that lake very big. 10-12" is common. popeye with a wax worm (if you can find any) will do wonders. deep bobber or no bobber will be fine depending on how deep they are.

Sounds a bit better. I would go for that. Are they still pulling the lake? Bass bite still slow?

    Re: Cedar Creek

I've been out there a couple of times this year looking for those shellcracker and also have read some of the reports, but have yet to catch anything but small bluegill, shellcracker and very small crappie (5-7 inches on the crappie) for the last three years. Those reports are originating from the baitshop owner BTW, so I generally take them with a grain of salt and head on to other lakes until something (panfish) is large enough to catch there.

Fished cedar creek 10-21-07 bite was slow which means you need to slow down me and blueblood caught 8 nothing bigger than 12" but they fought hard. No need to go into cowan creek it is dead. water temp was aroung 70.
