Question Braid for 1st time any comments?

Fished mono all of my life but I'm about to try a braid. I think I have it between Spiderwire ultracast and Sufix performance braid. Fish primarily at night (at least this time of year) so both of these have a flouresent version. I've been told not to fish it with crankbaits and worms?? Just flippin and heavy topwater action. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions. I would like to be able to worm, jig, tube fish with it as well as pitch crankbaits. Is that unreasonable? Thanks for the help.

Try the braid with what you want then you can decide what works best for you.
Crank baits will run deeper, but you may want to go with a lighter action rod less back bone more give. I've caught a ton of fish on crankbaits with braid (Fireline).
Jigs worms and tubes will be no problem with braid, also buzz baits. I've been using floro lately but still keep braid on a couple outfits.
Good luck finding the Sufix fire orange.

If your fishin at night you could probably get away with it in alot more situations. I use it for flippin heavy mats and throwin frogs on mats and stuff, but also with carolina rigs.. you feel everything. You can also get away with it when using reaction baits like spinnerbaits and lipless and it will rip threw grass better. Ive never heard of guys using it with crankbaits so there may be a good reason for that, i dont know.

I've been using fireline with crank baits since it came out works good for me & when you get hung up you don't lose as many crankbaits as with mono. i've also used it night fishing wormin & it works good i can feel the bottom & bite better with it. I started using the suffix braid last fall & i beleive i like it a little better than fireline i just got some of the suffix neon fire i'm gonna try out next week. just my 2 cents worth!!

I had to think about my hookset because when using Mono and a 7ft rod I had a natural feeling hookset and drag set. When I tried braid (don't use it much now) I made a few bass fly over my head and I'm sure I tore a few faces and lips off! If you are use to a gorilla hookset just remember there is no stretch and all your power goes down that line to the hook so remember to duck!! Some people love the stuff but for me I just use it on my C-rig with a tungston weight to get the ultimate feel. Everything else is Mono it just feels natural for me and is very forgiving. Good luck with it!

Hey Ranger519, what # do you use? I was going to try a 30# on my baitcaster and maybe 10 or 15# on one of my spinning reels. What do you think. Is 20# to small of a diameter to cast on a baitcaster??

I use it in ranges from 8/1.5 to 30/8, on bait casting and spinning. For all spinning if you are into cranks, the 15/4 will cast a mile, and you feel thewobbleand wiggle of most cranks, just back off on the drag, and no need for jaw breaking hook sets. But I use mostly green or grey, and a flouro leader.A 15 lb flouro will do very well to begin with.Dont try to use your hands when pulling on a snag, this stuff can seriously cut you.My choice is stealth, price is the only reason.

I quit using braid except when I'm using jiggin spoons. A straightened hook with a 3/16 oz worm weight penetrated my calf ONCE. That was enough for me. Went through levis too. The line did not break. I'll break off 12-14 mono any day worm fishing. I use braid on my jiggin spoons 30#. I change the hooks out too and replace them with wire hooks. Get hung up just pull slowly. Usually comes free or I've even had snap swivel straighten.
