Ryan, Riley is only 64 years old, why is that too old to coach basketball. Man you young whippersnappers are quick to bring age into any conversation, lol.

Good Lord man how old do you think 64 is??? I know freaking marathon runners older than that, what are you 12???, lol.

I'm not saying he's the first most excellent choice for the job, but saying a man can't coach at 64 yeras of age is almost insulting to the elder generation.

    Re: New coach for UK

Well, I will be 60 years old next week. Yesterday evening one of my tournament clients was telling my wife that he was at a BassPro shop this winter and KVD was there doing seminars. He said he got a chance to talk to him one on one for a few minutes and asked KVD for some tips for fishing Ky Lake. My client said that KVD recommended that he contact me to assist him in improving his fishing on Ky Lake. I guess I better try to contact Kevin and tell him that he needs to quit recommending me because I am getting so old I might fall out of the boat or forget where I am on the lake.

Happy early birthday. Careful with that many candles, there have been some out of control fires here.

    Re: New coach for UK

So you think Bruce Pearl would be a good choice? I mean our coach now that most people have given up on, beat this grease ball 3 out of 4 times.

Pat Riley would respectfully laugh if he was ever offered the Uk job. the guy is top 4 in all time NBA wins as a coach. A legend in that league.

John phelpry and travis ford are where they need to be now. That step between a smaller school and an elite school. You don't jump from umass to UK with EKU being your other stop. And phelprey is showing that he isn't quite ready yet either. I love these guys, and hopefully their jobs now will prepare them for the opportunity to one day coach at a place like UK. This is these guys first chance in a top 6 conference. Good luck to them.

As far as any other "elite" coaches. why would you come here? your getting paid almost the same without the intense, ridiculous pressure. Why would you come to a place where high state goverment officials, old players, and ordinary fans constantly bash you, your style of play, your players, and your social life. Not every real coach or real good player wants to be apart of this, and if you think people would just drop everything to come here, think again.

Im going to throw out a suggestion, Im frustrated and upset. but this season isn't even over, and the ncaa isn't out of the possibilities either. But support this guy, he's our coach and getting rid of him this year would be a huge catastrophe for years to come. We would lose current player, recruits and hurt our image to media and potential job candidates.

    Go cats.

There now this is settled, Dave can be new UK coach, if KVD recomends him then what else do you need. Dave I have never fished with you Yet, but when Ky lake guides are discussed anywhere you always come up. Happy Bday, I will be 47 soon. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Bobby...actually I was speechless when my client said KVD recommended me...I have worked with KVD a few times doing seminars over the past number of years and in the course of doing so spend one on one time talking shop and just shooting the bull but had no idea he thought enough of me to make a recommendation like that. I am flattered to say the least.

Happy Birthday a little early young fellar. I know bunches and I mean bunches of 60 year old men that could walk some of these pups on this site into the dirt.... Daily. They'd be saying hold up a minute let's take a break, I can hear it now. I fished a tournament several years back on Nolin with a man named Garland Cochran he was 82 years old at the time. Heck at the weigh in I was more tired than he was. I did operate the boat and truck ect all day but still. That older gentlemen was to cool, I loved fishing with him.

I pretty much agree with everything you stated but what's the difference between UMass and Texas A&M? Now granted the Big12 is theoretically stronger than the Atlantic 10, but remember UMass did make it to the Final Four back in 1996. Texas A&M - not so much.

I'll admit I thought Billy Clyde would be better than he has been.

by no means am i saying the man cant coach...i know 64 aint old adn i am only 24 so yeah it might seem old to me.... but i like more so what the young coaches have done to the sport then the old guys... its kinda like finesse fishing and power fishing.... older people are less inclined to get on the finesse fishing but the young folks like to do both....

Well in 96 Calipari was coaching the Minute men, and then made at the time a small jump in conference strength to Conference USA power Memphis. Now memphis is loaded in a horrible conference that only parellels the A-10 in basketball, since UC and Uof L left.

Top 6 conference is a top 6 conference. The big12 has OK, kansas, texas, among other schools that play the season in the top 30. Their conference play alone strengthens thier RPI and Strength of schedule, unlike the A-10 and conference USA.

Billy showed he could compete in that conference and beat the best. He never stayed put long enough to take those programs to that next level by having a final four or national championship.

It takes time for these things to happen. Billy came here to rebuild and it takes more than two years to rebuild. Should certain losses be happening? i don't beleive so, but as a whole, I have to hold out hope for this guy, because getting rid of him now is THE worse alternative.

I may change my tone at this point next year. But i also have much higher hopes for next season. I didn't think this year was going to be a solid year. I just didn't expect it to get this bad.

The season is not over guys. Our players and coaches need us now, more than eever.
