Through the hull. Better performance at speed, less likely to get knocked off and no holes in the transom

Just bought a new humminbird 597ci and I have a question about the best place to mount the transducer? Is is best in the hull or on the transom, I will gladly take all advise.

If it is an aluminum boat it can not be mounted in the hull.
Call humminbird and tell them what you are trying to do and what type of boat you are putting it on and they will email you pictures of where to locate it.
One thing to remember, when you do a thru hull, like I did, you lose the water temperature, unless you buy a special temperature probe, and you lose something like 20% of the transducers strenth, i.e. its ability to read bottom composition, and fish, compared to mounting it on the outside of your boat
It is a ProCraft fiberglass boat.
Im about to mount a LMS 520c and Im putting my tranducer inside the boat. (thru the hull) Thats where my old one was and it read the same temp as my trolling motor depth finder. Id rather have it inside anyways for the reason knocking it off, breaking it and buying a new one or just the thought of putting holes in my boat. Just my thought!!
Thats why I put mine inside also, just couldnt bring myself to drill holes on the outside of my boat, just couldnt do it.Im about to mount a LMS 520c and Im putting my tranducer inside the boat. I had a bottomline mounted inside the hull and it was terrible. New transducer mounted on rear was 10 times better. I know mfgrs. say it does'nt but mounting inside the hull does take away from the performance of your unit.
Two stories.A friend and I bought the 797c hummingbird last year and had it mounted on transome.3rd trip out on his boat he hit some rough water and the bracket broke.Hummingbird sent him a new one to replace it ,transducer and bracket, remounted it but higher up and has not had a problem. The installer mounted it low.On the other hand, mine was installed by a different dealer and they put it a little higher and (knock on wood)havent had a issue. So my advise is to install it on transome but dont put it too low because of choppy water.Hope this helps.By the way Hummingbird has been great on warranty.
