I have recently bought the tru-tungsten hackney frog hooks and have yet to try with the toadsthey are a double hook method designed for the Horny toads and the ribbits. I rigged one up and it looks pretty neat.
I've been looking at those myself. What size did you buy? I normally fish the horny toads.

Gonna give ya one of my secrets for fishing frogs...Switch to a tube bait with the tentacles on the end. Really don't matter what color, but maybe a white, Red Shad or even Purple will do.... Get a wide Gamma Hook Start it into the tube and before you rotate the hook, put a Styrofoam earplug up into the tube all the way to the end. Then rotate the hook and insert it all the way till it barely breaks the skin or go ahead and break the skin, but then barely bury the tip. This will increase your catch rate tremendously and remember don't use any type of weight, go with fluorocarbon line if possible as well.... Twitch the tube like the frog and hold on.......

This tactic is especially deadly at Patoka Lake, Lake Monroe in Indiana and on Ky. Lake fished over the grass mats......

I use the horny toad as well, however u need to weight the 3 or 4/0 hook so the frog stays upright

Thanks for your help guys I am going to try and go after them again next Monday or Tuesday!! I will have stronger test line on this time and a couple other types of frogs to test out. I am pretty good with jigs/plastics and crankbaits and dealdly with the chatterbait but never have been good with the topwater. If I catch some hogs I will try and post a few pics on here for you guys. My dad told me he used to catch em on a spoon with a grub trailer drug on the grass. has anyone ever tried this???

Heck yeah! We used Johnson Spoons with grubs or spinnerbait trailers in Florida and you could cast them pretty far.
Never tried it here though. Those spoons were great on Redfish as well.

I use a strike king swimming frog with about a number 4 size hook that has been skin hooked at the top which makes it perfect cause the hook comes out of the top of the frog so it almost never gets hung up and you can land those lunkers with no problem at all.
    Good luck and good fishin'

Horny Toad with a #5 Gamagatsu hook. The hook is to long but it works perfect. Hook into the head about 1/4 inch then rotate, the body of the frog will lay in the gap of the hook. Then just skin hook it to keep the point weedless. I get more hook-ups this way cause less of the bait getting in the way on the hook set. 7ft rod and 65# power pro braid. like said before set the hook and winch through the grass never giving any slack.

i am laughing today because i almost posted a reply to your post yesterday telling you that i have been throwing frogs at that grass on stoner for the past two weeks with no luck. I got home last night, grabbed my new virgin loomis/revo setup, tied on a gambler cane toad, walked to the bank on stoner outside my house and on the second cast pulled in a nice 3lb chunk outta the grass!!!
