Some KY Lake Numbers from my journal.

Some of you may know that I’m a DBA for a company in the Louisville Area. About 15 years ago, I created a little “database” that has become my fishing journal for EVERY trip I’ve ever taken.

Last week I decided to take some information from my KY Lake trips, and do some basic number crunching and take a look at the results.

Over the past 7 years, I’ve been to KY Lake about 50 times….The first few years I went 4-6 times a year, starting 2 years ago 8 times a year, and this year, 12 times a year. Here are what some of the numbers look like:

Average for the first 6 years was 32 fish per trip/day with 8 keepers per trip, and 10 100 fish days. This average is over 38 trips, and 121 total days.

10 DAYS out of 121 days where we caught over 100 fish.

Average for this past year was 86 fish per trip/day with 15 keepers per trip, and 9 100 fish days. This average is over 12 trips and 39 total days.

9 days out of 39 where we caught over 100 fish.

The increase in performance this past year is due to many factors, including more time on the water, etc, etc…but the single LARGEST contributor to the 300 percent increase in bigger fish and numbers is Dave Stewart’s familiarization and water elimination class.

If you have not taken it yet, TAKE IT…….

What you know, you will know better, what you don’t know, you will LEARN. Your fishing ideas will change, and your abilities will increase.

    Dave Stewart………THANKS……

    Woody………THANKS…………

    TheBassMan30…….THANKS……..

    Dave Stewart……..THANKS AGAIN……

    Later,

    Geo

Re: Some KY Lake Numbers from my journal.

I should also say that I have 4 friends who have taken the coarse, and I have fished with 3 of the 4.

We all have maps marked, and have marked some other spots, and try to "figure" out BEFORE a trip where we are going to fish...we've also tried to apply the techniques to other lakes. While I'm not as successful on other lakes, it DOES WORK.

The biggest problem I have right now is after deciding where to fish is STICKING the method.

Yesterday it was bluebird and PAINFUL. We did manage to catch a couple nice fish early on, but decided to try "something else". Had we continued fishing our chosen method, which was in an area DAVE recommended.......we probably would have continued catching fish.......but we didn't and we laid an egg.......

Man, I cannot wait until next week to try some more.

    Later,

    Geo

Thanks for the kind words George and the number crunching. I have received a lot of great feedback from folks that have indicated their fishing improved from taking my class and applying the informaton....but this is the first time anyone has actually shown me actualy statistics...thanks again.

Appreciate the thanks George, good luck down there AGAIN THIS WEEKEND you BUM, did I mention that you are a BUM for going again. Hope you catch more than you want and you actually get tired of pulling in 4 and 5 pounders and have to take out to get a massage because your shoulders are hurting so bad.

Call Dave Stewart at Bassbuster Guide Service and you can sign up for the class. His number is 270-354-5039. The class is out of Dave's home and he pretty much only does them during the winter when he is not guiding.

Take a buddy and you both will learn a lot. I never had the "class" version but did get the same information on a guide trip with Dave a few years back and I use the information pretty much every trip I go fishing. Really help you eliminate 90% of "less productive" water on every trip. You can take a map of any river system shad forage based lake, like Ky Lake, Barkley, Rough, Nolin, Barren River and such and figure out which 10% of the water to start your fishing trip ANY SEASON OF THE YEAR. This will give you a staring point and you my have to adjust to a secondary point, hump, flat or such to find the fish based on conditions but you won't be very far from your original starting spot if you use what Dave teaches you. Really comes in handy, especially when fish are transitioning from deep to shallow or shallow to deep. Good Luck, money well spent

If I brought a map of a local lake thats giving me fits would this class be helpful to me?

Like Elwood said, this class will help you out on virtually any lake. I teach the class using the Ky Lake map by Atlantic Mapping Co, but do on occassion have students bring maps from their home lakes from all over the country. Most topo maps need to be "prepared" in order to perform the eliminating water task I teach, which is too time consuming to do in the class, but I do teach you in the class how to prepare your map so that you can apply the information I impart to you. The more detailed your map is will result in less time on your depth finder to apply the information.
