Politics - I don't know why, but they seem to have a tendency to separate us, to keep us from one another, while nature is always and ever making efforts to bring us together

Totally agree with civility. Its possible to disagree without being "disagreeable". A little humor keeps things light. Candor and frankness are not excuses for rudeness, or name calling, belittling, or ridiculing. Candor and frankness means telling it like it is and doing so with respects to anothers dignity.

How do I deal with someone who hits below the belt? Step one. Humorous quips aimed to make a person stop and think, and give them the opportunity to return to civility so we can continue to candidly discuss and frankly agree, or agree to disagree. Sometimes you just got to get folks a little off balance to give them time to stop and reflect. If I continue to get attacked. I do get firm, and lean more on logic. If the treatment continues, I go back to plan "A", with the humor, and give the individual the full opportunity once again to regain some perspective, but failing that, I give the person the opportunity to continue to publicly display the bad behavior. I have to work at being easy going, and I do use humor as a mechanism to contain myself and try to take the edge off a situation. Never been afraid to commit to an engagement, think shots over the bow are a fair way to forewarn, enjoy arm wrestling and a tough chess game, threats are challenges to be addressed in priority order, and always willing to stay the course. Teams I've been on were strong because we kept ourselves in line, while respecting the other guy, looking out for the other guy, working together to be successful, sharing info, and being willing to do whatever it takes to make broke things get fixed. Been there, done that, got the ribbon, and the return ticket.

Cheers! We're all in this together.

And no I don't stay up all night writing this stuff, just heading out and thought I'd check here before the rods went in the truck and the tackle box on the boat.

They are one of the simple pleasures of life. Which feels better, scratching an insect bite or letting it itch?

    Re: Why I joined fishin.com

Been coming to this board for years and have received and given a lot of fishing information.

I've gotten to where I only visit off topics. Why? Because it's fun. I like to debate calmly, spiritedly, or just plain argue. I could care less if it's civil. The rougher the better far as I'm concerned.

I'm the person who purposely misspells the name of a political party, and I make no apology for it. When a misspelling (Dimocrat) makes such a perfect description I can't resist. Would you feel better if I called the other party Republican'ts? Just say the word Andrew, and you got it.

If we all agreed on the issues and got along it'd be boring as heck. The fact that the raciest threads get the most hits says something doesn't it? That said, it has gotten a little catty on here lately with people blocking views, sending PM's, and so forth, but I'm okay with that.

If I ever block anyone's threads, you'll know you beat me down and more power to ya. (Don't hold your breath on that.)

Several people including one of the moderators have talked about banning political posts all together.

Go ahead and do it. Soon thereafter watch the hits drop off to where the New Mexico deep sea fishing board looks busy in comparison.

I love you Tyme, but drop the snivelling. You want to talk fishing, go over to the fishing board and talk fishing. Same with hunting. You'll be back soon enough...you can't help it.

Me, I think I'll jerk ole 'cork's chain...maybe fire a missile up Pontooner's way and wake that scallywag up. Maybe if the 2 of them teamed up it'd be more fair.

Well said! Without the adversity there can't be the satisfaction of overcoming it.
