Why should I pay this tax so you don't have to pay more property tax? And income tax I don't shead a tear for either. Don't be taxing a lake enhancement fee if the money doesn't go there period. I always thought that tax was bogus, and Mitch just proved it when he said "we have more money than what we need" in that fund. If that is the case, then remove the tax next year and until we do need to raise the money. He will STILL get my vote, cause at least he didn't ROB the fund and then shut down all the **** ramps around indiana like his predecessor did.
Yea, IT *****........but I'd much rather rob that fund, than raise my property taxes, or income taxes, or sales taxes............
Personally, I think it is BS that the DNR runs a clean and efficient process, and the rest of gubment cannot..............

Idbe,
Vigo County has had a EDIT tax in place for about 4 or 5 years. The tax money is supposed to go for "Economic Development".
Where the money actually goes is beyond me, because there hasn't been a significant new employer come to Terre Haute or Vigo county since the tax was put into place.
And by the way, when the tax was put into place, the county commissioners made sure they went for the maximum 1.5 percent allowed by state law. The state itself taxes at 3.5, so we now pay 5.0 percent for state and local.
That doesn't include the sales tax increase to 7 percent so that my property taxes could be lowered. NOT!. They went down one year, and now are back up where they were already.
I don't know about the South Lick dock. I assumed you were talking about the Newton Stewart South dock. Beside, wouldn't new docks come from the entrance, launch and boat tag fees? The river and lake enhancement tax is supposed to be use for rivers and lakes enhancement not building docks.
Would Walleye stocking count for lake enhancement? they did that at Patoka
Does anyone know exactly what those enhancement fees are supposed to enhance?
Never mind,
Did a little looking and found this..
The money -- totaling $10.8 million in the last three years -- is supposed to go toward sediment removal, controlling invasive plants and animals and marine law enforcement patrols, but instead has been transferred elsewhere.
Still prefer Mitch over the last three bozos we had, however if monies are not needed for the intended purpose then they should quit collecting it.

I know it's normally wasted to fund sheriff's department marine patrols. The last time I ran into one of these "jokers" he had his wife or girlfriend riding with him in her bikini. It wasn't a pretty sight.
He let us know we needed to watch our speed or else he would have a CO write us a ticket. Real professional!

Marine law enforcement patrols are considered lake enhancement? This is another tax that needs to go away. By the governor's own admission, they don't need the money for lake enhancement. I doubt they do anything with the money other than buy law enforcement gear and pay wages out of it.Does anyone know exactly what those enhancement fees are supposed to enhance?

When I go to Illinois, I catch fish almost everywhere I go, and usually some nice ones each trip. When I go places in Indiana, I rarely catch numbers of fish, some decent ones, but the numbers are never there.
They should have just a nominal boat fee, based on how big your boat is, and that is it. No other tack ons. A guy in Evansville shouldn't be paying for Lake Michigan stuff, and vice versa.

Is one area of disagreement worth voting for a different person? If that be the case then we'd have no one running the show. If we didn't have a state house and state senate than he Mitch could push through whatever he wanted. Everything he signs has to go through the channels of state government before he can put his name on it. Depending on who has a majority in both houses dictates what gets passed and what doesn't.
"Daniels also vowed to return the funds when economic conditions improved."
All we can do is believe him unless someone has an inside man in Indy.
I personally don't mind that my kids, public safety and education come first.
Just my opinion.

The problem with your theory is it didn't take the state house's approval to do what he is doing. Apparently, he controls this money. His promise to pay back the money is open ended with "when economic conditions improve".
The economy in Indiana has pretty much been in decline since 1975, if the entire state is looked at.
He won't be in power in 2 years, so he is saying something that he can't really be accountable for.
IF the money is not for what the tax is for, refund the money paid this year and get rid of the tax until "economic conditions improve" to the point that people can afford to pay for "lake enhancement".
According to this article, the governor is incorrect in stating that there is more money in the fund that is needed, so basically they took the money.http://www.journalgazette.net/articl...98/1147/EDIT07
