    South Jefferson/Bullitt Counties

    Hey everyone,

Tomorrow night we are off to see Def Leppard & Heart at the Kentucky State Fair. We have booked two nights at a hotel in Bullitt County and are hoping to make a weekend of it.

I was hoping to have a crack at a small pond that I was a guest at back in June but permission has not come through as I write this.

Does anyone know of or, even better, have access to a small pond or creek where my 10 & 9 year olds would have a decent chance of landing something that is bigger than our customary 5 inch fish that we land?

Be aware that we have no access to a boat and are OK with the fact that we can only bankfish. We will respect the land and leave it clean should we be fortunate enough to land a fishing spot. We are looking to fish sometime on Saturday.

Thanks in advance for any help.

There aren't too many great places to fish around town, but if the weather stays decent for the next few days you may try Floyd's Fork. It runs from Eastern Jefferson County through Bullitt County, and there are a few different places you can access it from the bank (Miles Park, Floyds Fork Park, bridge access off Seatonville Road... these are all in Jefferson County.) Small crankbaits, Rebel Crawls, roostertails, and small tube jigs have done well for me here. You'll find everything from largemouth, smallmouth, rock bass, bluegill, shellcracker, drum, catfish, and gar. My personal best fish there is a 4lb smallie. If you are willing to venture to far eastern Jefferson County, I could clue you in to a neighborhood pond that provides at least 5 3lb+ largemouth every time I go, and I have also caught a few 10lb+ catfish here too. Let me know if you'd like some more info.

I may be interested in your neighbourhood pond. You can PM me info if you'd like. I've also been told about Tom Wallace Lake which is only 6 miles from where we are staying. Appreciate the input.

In all honesty, I think a kid would LOVE the falls! Lots of stuck to check out and explore, and you never what you'll catch down there...sauger, whites, drum, catfish, bass...all you need is a rod and reel and some white grubs. It's on the Indiana side, but a KY license works there. It's a pretty neat place to bank fish.

I guessing your staying in Hillview. I would go to Mt Washington and go north on Bardstown Rd to Floyds Fork. You can park at the Fabric Store. Wade the creek. You can catch a bunch of rock bass, smallmouth and pumpkin seeds on live bait, inline spinners or Rebel crawdads. Fish the bottom for drums if you want to fight something big. Rairly will you catch catfish during the day. A buddy caught a 3 lb smallmouth right under the bridge last year in 2' of water.

Probably a 20 minute drive. take Bells Mill Rd to 44 to Bardstown Rd.

We went to Tom Wallace Lake while it was only 6 miles from the hotel in Brooks. What a waste of four hours! One solitary bluegill measuring about 4 inch.

Yeah, there's fish in there, you can see them, but hardly anyone caught anything while I was there. There must have been about 25 people fishing the bank and I only knew of three fish caught (2 gills and a small channel catfish), and I asked almost everyone I came up to.

If I'd known it was a FiNS lake I'd have gone somewhere else, I just don't catch on FiNS lakes for some reason.

Oh well, the main reason we went was for the concert and Def Leppard were excellent!!!

So why not give out the gps coordinates of the "neighborhood pond"? I mean I now know exactly where I can catch a 4lb smallie on Floyd's Fork what's the difference? I'd like to string up some nice largemouth for the skillet. C'mon I won't tell anybody I promise........
