When did they put all this in? The last time I was over there (admittedly it has been several years) none of that was there.

Also, is there a place that forces people to go to any of those establishments? I didn't think so. I guess free will only extends so far.

I like casinos! I'm not an addict,I only alocate a set amount of time and money, and its a form of entertainment. There is a good deal of speculation about them funding Williams senate seat. Easily half the cars or better at any indiana casino are from Ky. My personal choice is Tunica Ms. Free rooms, cheap fairly good food, free drinks, and a good chance to walk away with a small fortune[if you start with a large one].I know the odds are against me, but better than any lottery. And they do provide jobs, be it a waiter bus boy, or pawn shop owner. Also some tax revenue.I dont care if they legalize casino gambling in Ky or not, if I need a "fix' I know where to go.

Like I said I don't really know but when I think of gambling I sure don't think of a Disney world family atmosphere. I think of money, booze, women and drugs. Don't get me wrong I have been through each one of those and still enjoy a few of those.....I'm just saying casinos have a dark side and some people can't control themselves around them.
I can GUARANTEE that a significant amount of folks are those who can least afford it.

I've seen it first hand......and I can GUARANTEE you that I have family members that should NEVER step a foot in a casino....

Come to think of it.........I wonder if those VERY SAME FAMILY members had put some money away instead of making 5, 10, 15 or 20 trips to casinos a year to pay STUPID TAX......If they'd actually HAVE a pot to piss in.......Maybe that's the answer.

Older Brother......Loves Casinos..........No pot to piss in.
Younger Brother........Loves the horses......no pot to piss in.
Sister...........loves ALL gambling............no pot to piss in.
Mother........multiple mortgages to gamble...........no pot to piss in.

I should also say all of the ABOVE are democrats who think the GUBMENT needs to take care of them.

Me........I've been to a casino maybe 5 times. AND been to Churchill maybe 5 times ...........POT to piss in.......

    * Just built a new hospital.
    * Newer Schools.....PAID for without bonds, unlike Floyd County.
    * They actually are paving gravel roads that have NEVER been paved.
    * New Sports Complex.

Yea they have money...........but West end of New Albany is turning in to slums.......

There are currently Strip Clubs, Liquor Stores, Easy Cash Stores and Payday Loan stores ALL over the city of Lexington Kentucky. Putting Slot Machines in the Red Mile Harness Track will do what, add more of these establishments? Last I checked you had to be of legal age to visit a Casino, Strip Club, Liquor Store and such. If you are legal age and you choose to visit any of these establishments that is your prerogative. If you choose not to visit that is also your prerogative. Might as well allow the Casinos to get the rewards because the above downfalls are already in place.

Understand that Woody....but there were NONE of them before the casino in Harrison County. NONE.

Now we have them, and the seedy "business" community is filing lawsuits to get more.

    SAD.

Amen, Andrew. Casinos may bring in tax dollars and a few jobs but it also brings in The Crime Syndicate (Mob), prostitution, gambling addictions, drugs, and all sorts of crime. It costs the states more to prosecute and house the criminals than it takes in from casino taxes.

The very people who don't have enough money to feed their family and pay their bills are among the first to run to the casinoes. For some cockeyed reason they seem to think they have the mojo that will make them the big winner. How dumb do they have to be not to understand that gambling is rigged to make the house the winner?

The casinoes were the first businesses to be rebuilt in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina; they are now on land and offshore unlike they were in the past. It was a crime ridden city before the hurricane, but is so much worse now than it was in the past and mobsters are very active in areas where gambling and prostitution are so prevalent. All the 'great things' that are shown on TV are a few places that have a new paint job or have been re-built. They don't show the real New Orleans with all its crime and filth.

People have the freedom to choose but they don't always make wise choices.

    Re: A serious question

Ok...Casino will either help and/or save the Kentucky Horse Racing Industry...maybe.

Other than this one thing...I could careless about Casino Gambling...I went one time...and just like when I go to Churchill Downs I took 50 bucks and my wife took 50 bucks...I got up a little bit (very little), then I had about 20 bucks left and gave it to the wife, told her spend it or save it, either one she wanted to do was fine by me cause I was bored, had enough, seen enough, just not my cup of tea.

But other than saving the horse racing industry in Kentucky NOW...where do you all think we will be five years from now if Casino Gambling existed? I'll tell you where...just about the same place we're at right now. Want proof? Look at the lottery...I remember when the lottery got started here in Kentucky, there was going to be all this "extra" money for education, etc...at some point in time someone decided that money needed to just go into a "general fund". Now days all I hear about is how broke the public school system is....so judging by the lottery it would be my guess that any revenue produced for the state through Casino Gambling money would end up in some general B.S. fund. I like the horses...heck, I'll be honest..I love Churchill Downs...gaurantee you won't find any prettier ladies in this great country than the one's you see at Keeneland in April and Churchill Downs in May...plus it's just a good time. But I ain't sold on the idea that Churchill Downs will cease to exist just because Casino Gambling in Kentucky didn't pass. Yes I know...a lot of owner's and jockey's all go else where cause they get a shot at bigger purses..but I sure can't tell by looking that Churchill is hurting for money.

I sometimes wonder if I quit fishing, sold the boat, motor, and tackle, and took up occassional casino trips, which one in a period of 10 years I would have spent the most money on.

I really don't know that gambling is any more addicting then boat ownership or fishing.

For the cost of a full tank of boat gas, I could probably spend 3 days playing the nickle slots.

At least at the casino I have some small possibility of a return on investment in cash, vs just entertainment value.

    Re: A serious question

hurricane, good point. The money I have spent on fishing licenses alone would probably buy me a nice car. Boats! holes in the water you throw money into.20 yrs ago a musky trip to the upper peninsula and wisc also included a couple of hundred bucks to placate the indians[casinos]. BUT that was the cheap part.Entertainment costs money, be it hunting or fishing, golf it hasn't got a return built into it. A confortable seat at a nickel slot, a close by ash tray, and a long legged skimply clad cocktail waitress is sometimeas as much fun as a 5 pounf bass.
