First check out wiring connections on back of gauge, could be a loose wire. If not, you need to get your charging system checked out, typically when a RPM gauge is not working properly or you are getting false readings it is related to the charging system, the rectifier or could be a stator problem. Wiring was not loose, so that's not it and you just scared the %#^* out of me so I will def get it looked at asap
