    5/29 Cland nightbite report

The lack of good reports over the last couple of weeks should have been a clue but I went anyway. The kid at the bait shop said that the nightbite hadn't started yet should have been clue 2. The fact that there was only one trailer in the parking area should have been clue 3. The stable weather we've had for the last 4-5 days and the date on the calendar told me it should be primetime anyway.

Fished midlake. 74.5 degree water temp. BTW, the lake grinder/barge is/was at Fall Creek. There were just a few other boats out and they headed for the docks at sunset. Debris was very light and conditions looked great although the lake was up into the new growth trees/bushes. I caught my first and only fish, a 15" SM right before sunset in the back of a cove on a sliver.

The rest of the night was spent casting the usual Bomer Long A, Gizz4, Sliver and my "bread and butter" the Redfin to no avail on all my "go to" banks. Shad activity was light at best and occurred about 2-4. I never heard a single thing get hammered on top and I never had so much as a blowup all night. I spoke to two other boats that night and one had no luck and the other had only caught one small stripe on a Redfin.

I'll be waiting on some better reports before trying it again.

    waiting

I know what you mean, some nights youre done in 30 minutes, some nights your done before you launch....you just don't know it yet . im not sure about what the bait shop kid was thinking about the nitebite hasn't started yet. we were knockin the stripes off of em a month ago.... and now nothing. I went to the mouth of a creek last night and put my light out and thought I will just sit and listen for blowups, dip a jig for whites , walleyes and crappie while I do. I was out all night and never heard a single blowup, and the shad I heard you could fit in a sandwich bag. I did catch a limit of whites, 7 crappie over 15 inches, and caught enough bait to get the stripes pretty quick this a.m. so it wasn't a complete bust. I wish I could tell you what happened this year, they were really turning on and the just quit? im not sure youre going to be getting that better report anytime soon.

    Frickin Walleye....
Here's my theory, the 385 million Beavers that are now in the lake have turned carnavores and are laying traps for the Stripers. Once the Stripes are trapped the family of Beavers moves in for the kill.
Yep this is my story and I'm sticking to it....

Seen one of those fish eating otters below wolf creek dam Thursday. In my opinion otters should have a bounty placed on them. They have to be the single worst thing ever to happen to fishing

    otter tours !

ive seen guided striper trips, bass trips, crappie trips, catfishing trips and so on and so on.....I cant find a guided OTTER tour anywhere ?!? somebody remind me again why they were stocked? oh that's right economic impact....no, no that wasn't it. environmental balance? ummm....that one is obviously not it? they are great tablefare? maybe for killer wales off the coast of Washington state. a poor decision by a biologist who thinks otters are "just the cutest darned thing she ever saw" ? maybe (and yeaah it could've been the cutest darned thing HE ever saw too lol)

:-) Fisherman are the single worst thing that ever happened to fishing. Just ask the fish! I've have never had an Otter run over my planer boards. An Otter has never stolen a fishing rod from me. I've never been cussed out at a boat ramp by an Otter. And I've never had an Otter exagerate his account of how many fish he caught, where, when, or how.

My recommendation to limit the Otter's impact is to have KDFWR enforce the same daily limits on the little dudes.
We eat fish the same as the Otter's do, so the Otter's out have to abide by a limit or pay the fine for it. :-)
