    Fluorocarbon line Twist! AHH!!

Can somebody tell me how to stop fluoro line from twisting some much. I am using 8 pound line on an Abu Garcia Cardinal spinning reel. I have used all different lines from vicious to the new Berkley trilene fluror and it still twists like crazy. I have stretched the line out, used backing on the reel, and even have sprayed the kvd line conditioner on it and it still dont help. this whole year it has been twistin so bad the i have had to peel off alot of the twisted up line while out on the water. I am commited to using fluoro line but i just need it to stop twistin. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

One of the best tips I was given is to flip your spool yourself, don't let the reel engage it. That seems to help it more than anything, also be sure you don't have too much line on your spool that will cause the twist. I use Seaguar Invisix on my spinning reel that has the best castiblity of all the fluorocarbon lines.
    Good Luck.

This can be a pain in the arse but put it on the reel the way it is on the spool. Spool out 75-100 yrds, whatever your reel will hold then cut it at the filler spool and tie that end on the reel seat. That way your line lays on the reel the exact way it was on the spool. Should help.

On the money, also that flipping the spool by hand thing helps a bunch. KVD line and lure conditioner is some good stuff I like it.

It must do something for KVD to put his name on it, but I can not figure out for the life of me why if fluorocarbon line won’t absorb liquid, then why this spray magically makes the line better?
I can see where it makes normal line that absorbs water better, and in looking on their website, i really did see a lot of reference to fluorocarbon line....
Maybe some of the crew on here can "edumacate" me.......

Flourocarbon will not absorb any of the the magic sprays. I got this first hand from a guy that has been selling tackle for 30 years plus. I have been using Flourocarbon exclusively since last year and love it. I don't use any spray and have no more difficulties than with mono. As far as a spinning reel goes, make sure you are spooling it correctly with the proper side of the spool up, if this still does not work, get on the water, take off the bait and leave just line out, idle your boat letting as much line out as possible then close the bail, drag your line for a bit and it will completely straighten it self out. I do this even when I know I put the line on correctly anyways for this is the only real way of getting all the twist out of the line. After your cast, make sure you flip the bail by hand, then I always pull out any slack in the line just by habit, then start your retrieve. No problems at all. I use 4lb to 10lb on my spinning and 10-14 on my baitcasters, with 30lb on my flipping stick, love Bass Pro XPS Flourocarbon and even use it night fishing, of course without the blacklight for I love the feel. Good Luck

Try soaking the line in warm water before spooling this will help relax the line. Make sure to flip the spool with the coils so the line will go on the spool just like it came off the filler spool. As the other guys said to flip the bail manualy this will save you a lot of head ache. I will switch to floro on all but 1 or 2 reels next year it's just got too many positives.

elsnut --- tell me more about the BPS floro please..... what others have you used to compare the BPS floro to ???? I like Invisix floro but it still gets line twist after a 1/2 day fishing on spinning tackle .... any info appeciated and I might just have to try a spool of the BPS version --it's cheaper for sure :-) tight lines.....

    Re: Fluorocarbon line Twist! AHH!!

I switched to the BPS fluoro on several rods as well. Impressed to say the least. I use 20# bps fluoro for the main line on my c-rig with a lighter # leader of the same. Also switched one of my jiggin' combo's over to 14 or 15# BPS fluoro I believe (maybe 12). I really like the feel and lack of stretch. As for the spinning/finnesse outfits, I never use more than 8#. Seems to help with the line twist issue and improves casting distance. Also like the others said proper spooling direction and flipping the bail over manually really decrease the amount of twist. It only takes a few minutes to untie everything and let all the line out while idling to undo any of the twists that happen from a days worth of fishing. It could easily be done while waiting for your fishing partner to go get the truck and trailer if it's not too crowded @ the ramp. Hope some of this helps someone.

Don't like Vanish, Don't like Vanish Transition, the P Line is not bad but it still does not compare to the Bass Pro XPS. I have 4 baitcasters, 2 spinning reels all spooled with XPS and will only use XPS for my FNF leaders this winter. Never had a problem with it. When I did use mono, I liked the Bass Pro Excel mono, cheaper than the rest and worked just as good if not better. I think Bass Pro makes a very good line in either mono or flouro.

It's not suppose to absorb it. The idea is to coat it or make it slick thus less drag and better performance, and in my humble opinion it seems to help. I get longer casts with smoother releases.
