    Question Trout

A local park pond was recently stocked with trout. I've never targeted trout before and was wondering what was the best method to go about catching a few. Any input would be great since I know nothing about trout fishing.

    Re: Trout

I've been fishing the local park ponds here in Louisville that they stock with trout for several years now, and I've caught them on minnows, corn, wax worms, PowerBait, Super-Duper lures, and spinners. Probably the best bait is minnows. I rig them on a 12-18" leader, with a bead and a slip sinker on top of the swivel, under a slip bobber, using 4# test. They're fun to catch using light tackle, and they make good eating.

Black roostertails and minnows have been the best producers for me. I've never tried the super dupers but I've heard great things about them, actually have some on the way from Bass pro now.

You'll love those super dupers...especially in flowing water.

Super-Dupers are great lures.......another favorite of mine is the Panther Martin spinner in black/gold or yellow/silver. Perhaps the best way to catch trout though, is fly fishing .

I've had good success at cherokee park in louisville and prisoner's lake in kenton county with standard gold/orange panther martin. Little marshmallows also work well a times, red and orange seem best. powerbait is good as well. light tackle and watch for light quick bites.

KDFWR has posted the stocking schedule for April:

I'll be checking out Miles and Fisherman's that weekend, at least. Never fished that lake at Cherokee. Where do you park for that?

There is a parking lot off of the corner of Grinstead Dr. and Lexington Rd. I've heard that the aquatic vegetation can become a hassle a little later in the yr.

    Re: Trout

The veg can get bad. The sub-aquatic stuff was still pretty thick late last fall when i was there. It was difficult to keep the panther martin out of it.
