If all ships going threw the area would have a couple 50 cal. and a few sharpahooters on board the pirate problem would go away.

(CNN) -- A group of suspected pirates was captured Thursday after attacking a U.S. Navy frigate in the Indian Ocean, according to a statement released by the U.S. Sixth Fleet.
The USS Nicholas reported taking fire from a suspected pirate skiff shortly after midnight local time west of the Seychelles, the statement said. The Nicholas quickly returned fire and began pursuing the skiff, which was eventually disabled. A boarding team from the Nicholas subsequently captured and detained three people, the statement said.
The team discovered ammunition and several cans of fuel aboard the skiff, which was later sunk by the Nicholas.
Two more suspected pirates were captured on a confiscated "mother ship," the statement said. The detainees will "remain in U.S. custody on board Nicholas until a determination is made regarding their disposition," it said.
The Nicholas, based in Norfolk, Virginia, is part of the U.S. military's Africa Command.
The waters off the coast of Somalia -- the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean -- have been plagued by Somali pirates over the last couple of years. To crack down on piracy, the international community has adopted measures including naval escorts and expanded monitoring.
Last week, one pirate was killed and several others were detained after a private security team thwarted an attack against a Panamanian-flagged cargo ship, the MV Almezaan. A European Union naval force was called in to assist the vessel.
Now if only the Nicholas would steam into the port of Mogadishu with the bodies of these scum hanging from the yardarm, I think pirate activity in the area would die way down.

I've always wondered about these "skiff's" they mention, stuff like: "What length boat, how many horse power, etc". According to what I read above they had extra fuel on board.
This has been one of those weeks for me...I'm kind of in the mood to spit some beechnut in some pirate's eye!

I hear ya Tim, I can't listen to that song without yelling Yee Haw and getting all jacked up.
We say Grace and we say Mam, if you ain't into that we don't give a ****.
Spit in the other eye for me. I can't beleive no body is allowed to blow these guys out of the water on a regular basis. An armed person is coming at you with the intent to board and you can't shoot at him? Stay away from my boat Man.I've always wondered about these "skiff's" they mention, stuff like: "What length boat, how many horse power, etc". I've never heard that they're not allowed to, it's just that very few of those merchant ships are armed. But I think more and more are taking precautions these days. Look at the last paragraph of the quote from CNN: "Last week, one pirate was killed and several others were detained after a private security team thwarted an attack against a Panamanian-flagged cargo ship, the MV Almezaan. A European Union naval force was called in to assist the vessel."
I'd be interested to know what form this "detainment" takes. I hope they're not returning them home! If they don't just blow them away on the high seas, then at least the pirates should spend the rest of their lives in prison.
Duh! Really Duh pirates. Attacking a US Firgate with a skiff and small arms is like a wren challenging a Hawk to an aerial duel. It's kind of like taking your 1962 VW beetle and deciding to attack a 62 ton Abrams tank.
Totally duh!
Solution: No action required, the fools will come to us in the name of Alah. The US Navy will be more than glad to accommodate their desires to meet Alah face to face. Have you every seen what a 20mm Vulcan deck gun (hydraulically or pneumatically driven, six-barreled, air-cooled, electrically fired Gatling-style cannon, which fires 20 mm rounds at an extremely high rate. 4,000/6,000 shots per minute ) can do to a skiff. Shredded cheese!
To be frank..the whole Somali situation blows...I still can't believe Pres Clinton tucked tailed and ran from the place...when we lost so many brave warriers;..what, was it 12 Rangers killed in action. We still owe them one for that...even though we killed roughly 2,000 that night. If we really wanted to do something about the pirates...then you got to go to the nest where the hang out...where they eat their crap that gets them so high..they can't tell from a battle ship from a tanker! That place is the real "wild west".....We should just use the place for on-the-job training for special war spec.! I feel for the people that have to live in such a place on earth that is soooo frecken bad. Oh well...then UN doesn't give a crap...the world doesn't care...they just keep paying the pirates damands....It's just one of those things that we refuse to do anything about...especially after getting our ass kicked in one operation...so to speak. I tell you what....our brave warriers that have given their all; we can't let them down to the terriney in this world. Their just are some really bad guys that need justice pointed right in thier faces for a change!
The skiffs they use, from the pictures Ive seen appear to be deep Vs about 25-30ft in length but maybe 6ft at the beam. All that Ive seen have been tiller stear with maybe a 65hp motor but Ive seen pictures of one that had twin tiller motors! Dont know exacty how they had it rigged but I bet thet boat would run pretty fast.
They are towed out on a mother ship several hundred miles and use that ship as their base to refuel/resupply.
Ok...so THAT'S how they're getting the job done. I was wondering how a "skiff" could get out that far and back. As most everyone knows, other than both being wet, ocean water and lake water are two entirely different deals.
This attack happened "shortly after midnight local time." I have a feeling these guys had no idea what they were firing at.
OOPS!!!
I've got the feeling that the Navy had to supply those pirates with a fresh set of underwear.![]()
