it's sad times when Police Officers, have to be watched by video to try and keep them honest.

Ok so he may have been a bit excessive with the number of shots but honestly I would have drawn my weapon too if the guy dove into his vehicle like that. Can't be to careful these days. Some folks wouldn't think twice about shooting a cop.

    Agreed.

I see what the officer perceived as a threat. I also see the mistake he made but he has to think in a split second and he messed up. If he is found guilty and I believe he will be he should not be tossed in jail....jmo.

I think it's very sad that we have people in this country who would curse the cops for not being there when they need them but are quick to blame and ridicule them for being human. Here are a few things people better understand...without cops we would be living in fear. Fear for our mothers, sisters, daughters and sons. Take a look at places in this country or in the world without cops. Look at ganglands in Chicago, Missouri, Florida, California and on and on and tell me it would be better to chase the cops out of our lives and fend for ourselves. Cops need to be recorded on video for their own safety....period!

I don't place cops on a pedestal and I don't toss them under the bus when a mistake is made. How many cops are out there facing danger every time they put on a uniform? How many get killed for second guessing a situation and caught off guard only to be killed and leave kids, wife's, husbands and families to grieve. I will take the cops being on my side and making mistakes (they are human like you and me..good days and bad days) any day of the week. They are not robots, they get divorced, they deal with family tragedies, they can be mentally ill, they can be gay, they can be the best person you know.......just remember they are human and they do a job that takes a special person to do.

I will not take the side of hood rats, drug dealers, crooks, rapists, child molesters and murderers. This cop was a decorated man who understands the law.....I give him the benefit of the doubt in this situation. The man shot will be okay and will walk away with a large settlement. I do ask why would a Black man not understand the dynamic of a traffic stop and jump into his car like he did? Doesn't he have a tv? Radio?? Internet?? My gosh the Treyvon Martin fiasco, the dude in Missouri and others I can't think of should put a few thoughts into your head about how to react...right?? Isn't it ok to say that? Many are thinking it was a white cop black man thing again and it's just a matter of time before the vultures come out.

Tragic mistake that will change a lot of lives.

Didn't look like the guy dove anywhere to me. Looks exactly like a person reaching in for his wallet. How many people get out as a cop is walking up, then dive back in their car for a gun after they're asked for DL and registration?

    A seat belt violation? Really?

Four shots? At least 1 of them after the guy is backing up and very clearly not a threat. Past deeds don't matter, the former cop and his hair trigger finger deserve jail time for this one.

Drawing your weapon makes sense, but would you have started blazing away in the same situation?

I agree with Jim 100%. Most of the time I don't take this side but that dumbass Cop should be fired that was ridiculous in every way. Yes I can see pulling the firearm and ordering the man away from his car but that guy is frickin scared of the dark and probably sleeps with a night light.

Sorry I can't come close to justifying this one, WAY overboard. Now I will say this though, Black America and especially black males have caused much of this. Why, becuase they commit most of the crime, look it up statistics verify what I just said. Therefore when that guy and probably a good guy went for his wallet, Barney Fife starting shooting.

NO!! How many shots did the officer fire? 4? Yes every shot that was fired was wrong. Yes I would have drawn my weapon just being cautious. The officer made a split second decision and made a mistake. It's an unfortunate circumstance all together but I really don't believe it 100% the officers fault. Yes he will be punished and should but the black man IMO put himself in a compromising position by diving back in the car. That's just the way I see it.

According to the report, the former officer had been involved in a shooting before, and that probably had a lot to do with how he reacted. That said, when a person has the authority to use deadly force as part of his job, he has to be aware of every situation he's in, and act responsibly.

We all make mistakes for sure, but by spraying gunfire that quickly, he made too rash a mistake to be given the benefit of the doubt. Not only did he shoot an unarmed person, a pump or bystander could also have been hit.

He won't be tossed in jail, only serious offenses like cheating in bass tournaments will get you jail time!

why even draw your weapon, this stop was for the guy not wearing his seat belt. and without the video, my guess would be the cop would walk away free. I wouldn't want to live without any police officers, but some people just don't need a gun, like Andy Griffiths deputy, for him one bullet was to many.

    another one

A 68 year old black man, shot after a 9 mile slow chase. Close to his own drive way, the cop wasn't charged, he was also told to stop the chase by the county police. Do you think that maybe theres something to that DWB rumor? YES there is racial profiling, on all three sides. A white guy in a black area, is automaticalybthought of as a drug buyer, a lot of times its true. A black driver in a well to do white suburb, is "up to no good", a hispanic is illegal, and dosn't have car insurance, anyone who thinks those thoughts don't occur to you, is bullsh--ting himself. Cross the missouri river, and all you see are drunken indians on welfare.
