    Quiting smoking

I am going to try to quit smoking, I ahve been smoking for 20+ yrs and need to quit, not only for my health, breathing is getting worse and I am coughing a lot more latley, and also due to the tax's, will not pay 30+ dollars a carton to kill myself. I am looking for suggestions on how and the best methods from some of you that have been succsesful in quiting. Also I need support, I have tried to quit before but always backslid, it is the hardest thing I have ever tried to do. wish I would have never started. Thanks

    Re: Quiting smoking

Never really got into smoking anything legal. Seriously, for what it's worth you need to be doing it for your health man. That is one disgusting smell/habit and once you succeed in quitting you will wonder how you ever put up with it. Both my parents quit cold turkey because the Doc said they better if they want to see theri Grandkids one day. It worked!
I wish you the best my man!

I'm with DJD, I never took to smoking anything legal either...but I'm here to offer you support. From what I hear there's nothing easy about kicking the habit...my brother inlaw kicked it a few years back and he started when he was 12 or...he's 58 now and I think he's been smokeless for almost ten years now. He just quit and never went back...two hours turned into four hours into eight hours into 24 hours into 72 hours, etc...

    Good luck to you man!

My wife was a nurse at Jewish heart and lung for many years and one thing she allways said if you smoke you will have heart problems. My first and last was a Kool menthol I stole from my mom....I don't smoke anymore, not only did I not like it, when mom found out well....my backside still has flashbacks... Chuck

Those will usually scare off most first-time smokers.

Good job Bobby you can do it man. Give'em up and live long, keep smoking them and you like so many I have known will die from it or related to it. Don't mean to be blunt brother but them **** things will kill ya grave yard dead, seen it too many times unfortunately. Hey if you can't do it ask your doctor about Chantix. Alot of people have kicked that disgusting habit with this medication. Good luck.....''You Can Do It!''

    Re: Quiting smoking

THANKS GUYS. My wife and I both are quitting together, hope we stay together during it. My main concern is weight gain, I am not little but also not as big as I once was, and want to stay that way. I heard Chantax helps, but want to stay off Precp's as much as possible. But my drive to this is a new boat, from what I spend a year on cig's I could have a nice boat again, and also my health, as you get older, be 47 in May, you look at life different, and my health is my main concern so when I am done working for the state I will be healthy enough to enjoy the rest of my time fishing. Thanks again guys.

    Re: Quiting smoking

Chantix is the real deal, but it is also real expensive. It somehow specifically targets the reward center in your brain. After several days of the medicine you don't even want to smoke. When our hospital went smoke free several years ago all the employees got on it. The success rate was high and the reported side effects were low.

With that said though, Chantix was the number one drug in FDA reported adverse reactions for the last quarter.

    Good luck.

    Re: Quiting smoking

Hey Bobby, quitired pharmacist here. I smoked for about 40 years. tried Chantix and quit.
I had tried patches, hypnosist, pills, etc but the Chantix worked.

Some side affects: Weird, vivid dreams and the one most alarming is increased suicidal thoughts. So if suicide has EVER crossed your mind, don't go on Chantix.

My vote: Chantix does work. Good luck and hang in there.

    Re: Quiting smoking

Chantix worked for me quit for 1.5 yrs now. Still think about it everyday but it's just a thought now. Don't bother me a bit. The doc that gave me the script said take it just like it ordered and smoke all you want. about a month and a half later, every time I would smoke they would almost make me throw up. All the sudden they were not any fun anymore. By the way talked too my dad just 15 minutes ago. He said he bought a carton today, $34.00, he's gonna start chantix tomorrow. good luck on quiting, think about all that extra fishing.
