I know ky is a open carry state, and also that you can have a gun in your glove box of your car not locked up and loaded. Can you do this in your boat glove box

I have heard that you cannot on Corps lakes, because they make their own rules. That being said, I have never read/heard this from any attorneys or law enforcement officer so I do not know if it is true or not.
KRS 527.020(8) states in part that: "A firearm or other deadly weapon shall not be deemed concealed on or about the person if it is located in a glove compartment, regularly installed in a motor vehicle by its manufacturer, regardless of whether said compartment is locked, unlocked, or does not have a locking mechanism."
I guess the question is whether or not a boat is considered a "motor vehicle"....It's a vehicle....with a motor....and the console has a glove compartment installed by the manufacturer....
I'd never heard about restrictions on Corps lakes, but I do know that it used to be against the law to carry at Laurel because it fell in the Daniel Boone National Forest and the feds said no. That changed a year or two ago though and now they don't ban concealed carry at the lake.
From my understanding, the Corps has no control over firearms laws on the water itself, but they can ban firearms in their campgrounds or on their ramps. I have always been of the "what they dont know wont hurt them" mentality. It is concealed for a reason... if you do it right, they should never know.
My Concealed Carry Instructor (he's a LEO) said it was illegal to have a pistol on a boat in Indiana - he did not site the law.
Not sure about Kentucky - be interesting to see what the KY law is...
Not having one on my boat has kept me from doing something stupid like when someone bumps your boat to gain access to a very small spawning cove . . .
x2. Caught myself reaching for mine after an incident on the water last year...I happened to leave it in the Jeep on accident. From then on, unless I was night fishing by myself, I left in the truck on purpose. Didn't want to have to make homemade catfish bait because some disrespectful s.o.b....
You cannot have a gun on a boat at Lake Cumberland. I called the area Game Warden and he said the Federal law takes over. Even if you have a concealed carry permit it is against the law to have a gun on lake Cumberland. Unless it is hunting season and the gun has to match the hunting season. If you get caught it is federal not state which is more strict.
Turns out I am wrong. It is indeed a federal crime to have a weapon on Corps Property (including the water.)

Still doesnt answer the open carry question though. Because KY Lake is TVA if i am not mistaken so doesnt fall under the Corps law, and the ohio is a whole nother story as well.
