Why do you feel it is your RIGHT to make above and beyond what the market is willing to pay for a job. If the market is NOT willing to pay me what I'm worth, I either need to grin a bear it, or FIND A NEW JOB.

If a NON Union laborer does a job shitty, guess what......he's probably not going to get the next job. MARKET FORCES will weed out the bad laborers.

If a UNION laborer does a shitty job.......WHAT HAPPENS....the gubment awards them another union contract. FANTASTIC.

Turn KY into a right to work state, and get rid of prevailing wages, and you will see **** get done..........Maybe bridges will get built, maybe road construction that is done and redone, will get done right. Maybe the 10 UNION Laborers standing around "supervising" the jobsite will get their butts FIRED, and 10 guys wanting a job to WORK will get hired.

UNIONS have SUCKED the work ethic out of this country.

Some of us decided DECADES ago that swinging a hammer and working in CRAPPY conditions was not our cup of tea......

Some of us were called FOOLS for working for 12,000 a year, when the PREVAILING WAGE for the job was 20,000, but you know what.......SOME of us used that time to develop MONSTER SKILLS.

Some of us were called FOOLS for jumping job to job to job......5 jobs in 4 years.....BUILDING skills that are SECOND to NONE.

Some of us were called FOOLS for moving to 6 different cities in 5 years........BUILDING skills that are IN DEMAND.......all over the COUNTRY.

Some of us were called FOOLS for not working in the union and having job security.......MY SECURITY is what I KNOW.

Some of us were called FOOLS for spending CRAPLOADS of money on "extra" education.......above and beyond......Now that money has been returned 100 fold.

Some of us STILL HAVE JOBS, while the UNIONS have SCREWED you out of YOURS. I've seen it all over my hometown.........

Some of us GET IT.......some don't.

Mr Fisher shares his ideas with a lot of other folks in this country. ...unfortunately those ideas aren't good for our country in general and the last hundred years have proven that to be true ...Collective Bargaining got a foothold in this country a long time ago and it has done fairly well with that in place, the last 20 years or so has seen the unions fall out of grace somewhat
and as a result even the hard noses seem to agree that we are experiencing a "downfall of the country" as was stated earlier in the thread ...Seems sort of odd that it coincides with the weakening of the unions in the last several years doesn't it.

    Here is something to ponder........

I got into a rather heated argument with a friend of mine who owns his own business, and has probably 30 people working for him in 2 locations. He is rather successful. He also is a STRONG HEADED Leftist Liberal. Pro Union, Pro Health Care, Pro this, pro that.........bla. bla. bla.

So I told him.........how about I come to your building and protest outside and ORGANIZE your 30 workers and then DEMAND health care, and a 10% increase in pay.

His answer........I will FIRE THEM. This is his right, but isn't this directly against his collective bargaining mentality??

Imagine that...........When you turn this crap around they don't "get it".

Unions do nothing but collect money, fund SOCIALISTS, and blackmail Corporations. It is time to eliminate collective bargaining. It has NO PLACE in this global economy.

I don't think anyone would consider deep mining coal if it were not for union pressure on safety issues.

The basic 15 min. break every 2 hours was originally bagained through unions in the auto industry (on a grulling assembly line) and now is a federal standard.

Child labor laws were founded on union pressures.

Anyone who works as an employee has benifited by unions weather they are a member or not.

So unions have done a lot to benifit the middle class. Have they gone to far? Yes in many cases they have. Do some unions have to much power, consider the teachers unions.

So why do we have to be so ALL OR NOTHING? Hate unions/love unions.

There are a lot of politicians that would abolish all unions. I would question their commitment to the wellbeing of most Americans.

Then there are others that would simply steal from Peter (corporate america) to pay Paul (Votes/workers) and ride the wave for as long as it lasts.

So to those that would throw the baby out wilth the bathwater, crushing unions would take us back to sweat shops, industrial accidents and workplace abuse. Do not think corporate america would not take every advantage available to them.

Then there are those unions that are rife with corruption, demand more than can be reasonably maintained.

So the best approach is to regulate union powers and provide unions with the ability to function within their regulations.

I don't hate them or love them. Even with all the safety advancement they have championed in the mining industry, historically the miners union has been one of the most corrupt.

The term REDNECK was the name given to union supporters in W.VA durring the battle with the mine owners and union members. The mine owners actually hired airpales to drop pipe bombs on the miners. The miners were out gunned with single shot shotguns and deer rifles against machine guns. Needless to say the score was mine owners 100s miners 2. The miners wre red bandanas around their necks to tell who was who. Thus the term REDNECK.

    So Rednecks are union supporters.

How does that make sense?? How many of you make that after working 20 years in your trade??
This stupid union law did one thing for sure.... Construction costs went up, unions still can't compete because they refuse to budge on what they feel is fair.
It's disturbing to work around some of these local factories that are union and watch the total waste of time and lack of work from some of the workers who feel they have a long process of warnings before they can be fired for doing something wrong. No fear of losing your job and that entitlement attitude is wrong. Too many folks cruise that way. How many times have the unions ruined a industry?? Auto industry? Airline? Educational? All of those are constantly demanding more money or benefits or playing strong arm tactics. Just look at Wisconsin right now. Unions should be busted.
The teachers called in sick... A lie. Kids were rushed in to present a show of force without any idea of why they were there. What about the kids who actually wanted to go to school? Was there a contract for those teachers to teach the kids or just lie and call in sick with no regard for what their responsibilities are?? Do that in a private job and see what happens. That move alone by those folks proves my point. They want something so they screw everyone to make a point.....is that what unions are about??? Band together and hold corporations, businesses and gubment officials hostage?
Teachers have leave days man.....didn't have to lie!

Re: Mitch Daniels takes on LABOR

Thanks Mr. Union man for making it difficult for me to make ends meet on a month-to-month basis, especially if one of those months see's my 1997 Chevy truck have to go in for repairs. I will be faithful to my country and I will buy American made products when I can, even though I don't understand why you have to have so much more money for your product Mr. Union man, I will still continue to support you. Although please understand Union Man that it's getting harder and harder for me to buy American because the Labor rates over seas are so much less than here in the states, some folks say that's because of you Mr. Union Man. I'm hoping that maybe at some point in the future when your Union goes to the bargaining table that you will have it in your heart to just say NO to no more extravagant wages, to just say NO to no more benefits, perhaps even less benefits? Perhaps you'll even have a big enough apple sack to be able to tell your Union Steward that enough is enough and your Union has taken advantage of the citizens of the United States for far to long.

One other thing I don't understand about Union guys....how come some of them buy foriegn pieces of crap with four wheels? It seems a Union man would support another Union man till the end.

Last but not least...I have a few friends who belong to a Union...U.P.S., U.A.W. and one or two others. It never fails that I ALWAYS get a sense that me and them are of a different mind set....I always sense that I work much harder than they do, or at least at a much faster pace anyway, we don't discuss it much but I can tell they're not on the same page as me...as for 40 hours per week, man I wish all I had to work was 40 hours per week. Time and a half, double time, double time and a half, what the heck is that all about? I get paid the same week in and week out regardless if I do 40 or 60 hours per week.

Anyway...thanks again Union man. Maybe one day I too will have it made like you.

If you don't like and don't want to work in unionized labor, thats your choice. We union members happen to like good pay and benefits.....

Don't know what you do or what your education is, but sounds like you should count your blessings. Education has been significantly supplemented in this country by taxpayers, union and non-union workers. Even if you were so privileged as to attend all private schools at some point public education played a role in your cirriculum even if just educating your educators.

There are some who would calculate the true cost of an education in this country and then charge that amount to those that benifit from it.

Consider where you may be if all federal funding for education was stopped both primary and secondary. Think of the advances that would be left uncovered.

Just saying there is a purpose for a strong governemt (=strong country) and government is not just solely for "national defense/military" as some think would cure the counrty. Don't jump to the conclusion that I'm saying the best government controls all and socialize every aspect of society!!!Just saying there are some area of society that are best managed from a government role not a corporate or business role.

Unions are not the death of America. But I think their influence could be more closely regulated and monitored.

The correct way to state in a sentence how smart your Beagle hound is would be as follows; "I own a Beagle Hound that's smarter than he is."

Heck fire Kid, from some of the examples I have witnessed I could go so far as to write that I have a German Short Haired Pointer that's smarter than some union members I have encountered. But I won't do that....although I do own a German Short Hair Pointer, I don't see how man's best friend has a dog in this fight persay.
